The problem that Nigeria is facing is that they have a MASSIVE cohort of the population that will come of age in an environment with no jobs, infrastructure, or services that can support them. This is one of the reasons why groups like Boko Haram flourish - they channel the anger and dissatisfaction of the younger generation that has diminished prospects because their country is not capable of providing them with income and the gratification of consumption. They see the lifestyle of the developed world and assume that the reason they can't achieve it isn't because their country is economically undeveloped, but rather because the West has purposely denied them.
The truth is that there is simply not enough raw materials on earth for everyone to live like the average American or western European. Yet, we have billions of people who expect that they will be able to achieve the same level of consumerism.
Nigeria's economic "improvement" is negligible if you look at how sustainable that improvement is. In reality, as soon as their current generation fails to achieve their economic goals, they will fall back into poverty and civil war simply because the rate of growth can't keep up with the birthrate.
