liberal state
high standard of living, average pay is higher than the rest of the US in just about any field
close to two of the largest cities in America but also close to nature

Not really much more to say. It can be expensive to live here and there isn't much to do if you don't go to NYC but it's not a shithole like most of the South. There are definitely better states in New England though.

The drivers are awful though. And I mean THE WORST.

Eh, I live in Western Connecticut and I'm very seldom out that far East. As far as I'm concerned everything East of I-91 might as well be Rhode Island. Doesn't really mean much to me though I know one or two people who go out there to gamble a lot.
>>
>>56754847
New York is really nice outside the city. There's loads of really nice nature and stuff and the other cities are generally pretty nice too. I like to take scenic drives through middle and upstate New York a lot during summer. The city is cool the first time or two but the novelty wears off fast, there's just so much more to see. I want to go hiking in the Adirondacks this summer, I missed my chance last summer.

Cops are dicks when you have out of state plates though. I've been pulled over way too many times in New York. I can't drive like I usually do. Radar detector helps a ton though.

Savannah here.
Why do brits love Savannah so much?
After living in Europe, I can say definitively that they aren't missing much, but for some reason I've yet to meet a Brit that hasnt at least heard of Savannah, and most of them have been and love it, but most other Americans I meet don't even know Savannah exists.

I know what you're talking about- when going abroad euros often think of savannah when i say im from georgia. they tell me its because they read about it in books and some movies and its romanticized quite a bit. Its a beautiful place though, thats for sure.
>>
>>56759283
It's also dead.
Used to be a hyper-conservative Christian city with actual culture (something not found in America anymore) and class.
Because it was so romanticized, a ton of liberals recently began moving here from up north and now the crime rates have spiked to an all-time high and the city's now voting democrat.
These people ruined my city.
>>
>>56759525

Well that sucks. I live north of Atlanta and we're getting overrun with northern liberal hipsters right now. They are all going ape shit over the religious liberty bill; hopefully that'll cause some of them to fuck off.

I don't live there but visit every summer. Theres a lot of good bars and restaurants, amazing parks, Tybee Island is a pretty nice beach and theres good fishing around there too. There are some pretty ghetto areas of savannah but you can stay out of those... You'll enjoy it I think.

Nothing.
Well - you can always go check out the Islands, but I recommend checking out the southern barrier islands as Tybee's a cesspool. t. guy who lives on an island 11 miles west of Tybee.
Jekyll island's gorgeous, though, and doesn't get near as much tourism.
You can also always check out river street or broughton street if you're into city life, but that's not my personal taste. Bonaventure cemetery's really cool, and the downtown is laid out in a way really similar to a 1600s European city. If you've been to Europe, the river street should give you strong Heidelberg or Rothenburg vibes as those buildings have stood there since 1733.
The river street is also paved with ships' ballast stones, so you can see stuff like New England granite, German sandstone, and Italian marble on the streets. The trolley ghost tours are pretty cool, as the city has a long history of hauntings and other spooky stuff. My mother, the most honest woman I know, claims to have been at her friend's house in the historic district when the towel just floated to her friend in the bathroom, and she also claimed that the light switches would flip by themselves and doors would sometimes lock themselves on their own.
Also, my ancestor, Phillip Ulmer, is considered one of the most well-known ghosts in the city, but I don't know if any of that is true.
Off the subject of spoop, stay out of the two ghettoes. They're super contained, but once you're inside, you're cruising for a bruising. The Greek mob apparently has some control over the town, but I've never seen any of them.
The Savannah College of Art and Design owns 40% of the historic district, but they're hyper liberal, so just ignore the stuff they do. If you're looking for some stuff to do in the area around Savannah, Jacksonville's only an hour and a half south, Hilton Head, SC is literally a 15 minute drive over the Savannah river, and Charleston's about two hours north.
