Kick boxing is quite popular as a recreational sport here.
It originally came from Karate, but later boxing and then Muay Thai got mixed in.
That's why we also produce many Muay Thai champions.
But Karate and Judo are also very popular here. A lot of parents put their kids on Judo.
In our last year of elementary school all kids got kick boxing classes at my school.

There's two grips: that one + the "normal" grip of holding it like a scythe.
It's pretty much a slashing knife and silat is big on slashing movements. Paired alongside grips and armlocking of the other guy's knife hand.
