we hav oil and gas. Will USA invades us?
probably
no because we found out we have more oil in the form of shale under our country than the rest of the world has in any form combined
keep that oil barrel price dropping
Probably not in your lifetime, they really screwed their own economy with the invasion of Iarqi war and having recruitment problems currently
Can invade when no one want to fight
Isn't Indonesia already aligned with the US? And isn't everyone in the region willing to work with the US over China because they hate China?
those oil and gas are not ours though
Right before the cost of oil tanked recently, the US had become a net exporter of oil. The oil we do import, mostly comes from Canada and Mexico. ME oil is passe. Asian oil doesn't really exist, Asia is one of the lest energy secure regions on the planet. Their demand is so high, and their supply is so low, they will never export outside of Asia.
US interest in "fighting wars for oil" (keeping ME oil flowing) was mostly about supplying our allies so they could be strong enough to fight the Soviets. It's taken us a very very very long time to figure it out, but the cold war is over. If you follow American politics, you will notice that people are starting to wake up to that. Popular candidates will probably try to abandon the Bretton-Woods system where the US takes responsibility for global trade, and the US will forget about the 4% gdp that is trade with foreign countries outside of NAFTA.
The US will become isolationist again. Indonesian trade will mostly consist of sending raw materials to Japan in large trade convoys with naval escorts, while begging India to prevent China from annexing the Malacca Strait (China will continue to be paranoid about being "encircled". After they secure the South China Sea, they will see the Malacca straight as the primary threat to their oil supply form the Middle East.)

>having recruitment problems currently
what are you talking about?
we are downsizing our military and alot of our troops are getting laid off
oil is cheap right now. the US has too much gas. We need to pass more laws to prevent us from flaring it. We're already working on expanding natural gas infrastructure, so we can take advantage of what is pretty much the inconvenient waste byproduct of fracking.

we're probably not going to become isolationist. we'll continue supporting allies in Asia. Unlike European ""allies"" the Japs and S. Koreans mostly pull their own weight.
railroads to Malaysia
