What country contributed the most to the world?

In my opinion it's either Classical Greece or the British Empire

>Classical Greece
Because they set up the basis of the Western Civilization which runs the world

>British Empire
Because they created the most world, modern economy, modern society of the Western Civilization that runs the world and that they impose to the rest of the world. The USA are also an expansion of the British Empire which adopted all its codes.

Europe would never have gotten out of the dark ages with out fleeing byzantine scholars running from the arabs. That one small thing on the tail end of the legacy of rome is responsible for the entirety of western civilization.

And then there is everything that happened before that.

Rome is clearly the correct answer.

The Romans' most important legacy was the division of Great Britain into two nations, England and Scotland, because of that fucking wall they built.

Other than that. What effect did they have on British life that out-lasted their withdrawal and the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings?

Pretty sure this is the same person posting under the different IDs.

The assumption that china invented all of these things is fucking silly.

The compass was invented separately, although the chinese achieved it first. Paper was Egypt, separate from China. Paper, derived from papyrus.

Silk was stolen by byzantine monks in the 5th century or so, China merely domesticate it first. It would be like saying that the west/middle east invented wool.

Although the Chinese Legal system and Legalism is impressive (Lawyerfag here), it was not really influential.

China if anything has been a disappointment. 200 years of stagnation and pathetic growth despite its enormous population.

And yet Western civilization rose, peaked, fell and rerose since then. Whilst china remained a stagnant shit.

Ancient Greece and Rome definitely set the basis for the modern west and in a sense, allowed the post-apocalyptic society of the West to rebirth and discover through literature that which it would have otherwise had to discover through time.

The language of Latin, the bible and church. Although the latter two are not truly classical, they kept the classical world alive.

Some of the greatest classicists were medieval popes.
>>
>>56567345
I only wrote the ones with the US flag.

China did indeed invent these things and more, and your denial and salt is typical from westerners. I trust the academics and historians who have supported these facts forever instead of hotshot nationalists. Yes, China sucks now but all you guys seem to care is from the western centric worldview while the poster said the "world." <-- just look at your last paragraph. Too arrogant. Sad.
>>
>>56567384
>The language of Latin
From King Alfred's time, important educational books were translated from Latin to English so the common people could understand them. So Latin was never as important in England as it was in the rest of Europe

Good point about the spread of Christianity, but the religion didn't need a Roman invasion to spread to other countries. For example look at Scandinavia. If there was no Roman invasion of Britain we would have almost inevitably become a Christian country anyway

Not taking away any credit but those things were mostly invented independently, in parallel of Europe.

Whereas the question is who contributed more to the world as a whole.
Those contributed to China's development mostly.

Thanks to capitalism, western inventions had a global influence, felt not only in the west but the rest of the world too.

England was formed as a political union in 927 AD under Athelstan and definitively by 953. England was not created by Willliam the Conquerer. It was conquered as said in his title.you disingenuous piece of shit. Stop trying to claim glory for France you dick wipe. France has a good enough history without you having to practice historical revisionism.

England existed for over a century before the conquest of 1066 and that itself was a succession crisis to the 'English' throne. If England didn't exist the conquest would not have happened as William would have no claim on a throne

thats because i hate historical revisionism only made worse by being a history student not because its true. If it was true I wouldnt argue with you and if I did i would focus on when England actually became powerful in its own right post Tudor dynasty. You are just a salty fuck because Britain became more influential then France and shaped the modern world. Not that it matters because both countries suck today anyway.

Your argument is just an attempt at dick waving while spreading pure lies. Its like me claiming Napoleon wasn't french but Italian therefore the French Empire was really the Italian Empire. Its just alot of bollocks. The fact your only reply is "Hurr look how mad you are" just reinforces my point you are chatting out your arsehole as you can't counter my argument as I'm supporting my claim with historical fact.
>>
>>56573631
because you didnt and William didnt actually change as much as you would think as Anglo saxon law was quite effective and to have completely changed everything would have resulted in total anarchy when he was having enough issues bringing the country to heel and he didnt want to piss of those anglo nobles who actually supported or at least pledged loyalty to him. If the claim was true then I would have no issue but its just blatantly false. Also civil law is shit. Common law all the way.

Sports are games, and games were autistically codified by Indians (chess), which was transmitted to Europe through Persia

Same thing with Go and China, but that never really reached Europe.

If you want a pure European example, hnefatafl was an asymmetric viking game where a king is surrounded and needs to escape or die.

So do I, since you've mentionned you're a broke history student about as many times as if you'd been a vegan who had just started vaping, I'll have you know that I'm an English teacher. So I do recognize England's contributions to the world as well, how could it not be so ?
But I very seldom come on here expecting constructive arguments, mind you.
Also : >>56575309

And I've yet to hear of the story of a nice landlord, grab a pint and calm your mammaries, it'll blow over.
Your main mistake was assuming I was being serious in anything else than baiting for newbies in my first post.
WHICH YOU FUCKING NEW SINCE YOUR VERY FIRST REPLY STARTED WITH "I know this is a meme to cause us English to get butt hurt" (>>56572675), so why on Earth did you then proceed to make an utter fool of yourself when you know it was a trap.
If I call you a faggot will you then lecture me on how heterosexual you actually are ?
>>
>>56573779
common law is kinda shit though, it basically just gives a ridiculous amount of power to judges to do whatever the fuck they want. While having the power to "interpret" laws on a personal basis can be good, the problem is that it always ends up being just the judges who decide based on their personal values. And so if you have a leftshit judge, then he'll just rule that whatever leftshit bullshit he wants is okay, and then it becomes jurisprudence, and so you're stuck with it forever.
>>
In the western world: Greece, Rome, Spain and France for a little bit, and Britain (England and Scotland doing almost all the work)
>>
>>56575532
You're not stuck with anything together in Common Law. That's the whole point, it's flexible and changes with society

in the long term sure, but in the short term you are effectively completely stuck with whatever mood your judges are in

Difference is I understand both banter attempts and I can always reply since I know both the weakpoint of my fellow frogs and those of the rosbifs.
It's like being a teacher, tiring and often ungrateful, the kids are indeed reticent to learning it since they fail to see how it will be an important asset in their future. They aren't learngin those fucking Ireegular Verbs to properly use the preterit right now so I have to do it all over, but hey, some kids are worth every effort I do at the end of the day.
Plus, being close to bilingual, I can actually help tourists in Paris, blend in any pub, travel during my vacations and pretend to play dumb in front of American tourists.
It has its ups and downs but at least unlike too many of my friends I'm not unemployed atm.
>>
>>56575810
fair enough glad you find teaching somewhat rewarding. Its a career i am considering as im not sure what to do after graduating but i fear i would end up to prone to cracking the skulls of ignorant little shits. Really considering doing my masters and becoming a college or university lecturer instead
>>
>>56575916

Half of the guys I knew did that and the only difference is you'll be considering smashing the heads of students instead of teenagers.
The key is to have some catharsis outside of the job, for instance, as soon as I'm out of my school, I'm no longer a teacher, I'm only 26, I go out, I travel, I care about work only when I need to.
In any case, there are few jobs without any drawbacks out there, should you become an office worker, you'll feel murderous towards your boss and/or your colleagues anyway.
Wanting to kill each other but not (always) indulging in the act is what created civilization after all.
And when we really had to fuck up some people, who better than England and France to know how it's done ? Just go in a random country far away from Europe and genocide the uncultured people you find there, it takes out some rage.
>>
>>56576103

>What would have happened if China had weaponized gun powder before Europeans.
They did weaponize gunpowder before Europeans. Read a book.

In fact at the get go it's application was almost military immediately because "Fire Medicine" seems to be only good for lighting shit on fire easily instead of its intended purpose (longevity pills). Hence the first form gunpowder weapons had: incendiaries.

Hell, its use as a firecracker came after military applications, as Chinese realized it has explosive/propelling power when packed in a cointainer. So now bombs and rockets were added to incendiaries in the list of Gunpowder weapons.

That took place from around 1000's AD to the late 13th Century.

Every statue, every single thing that belonged to the Romans in Britain was destroyed because of Boudicca's legacy and the fact people on Britain revolted against Roman rule.
