They change around some basic history stuff, like characters showing up in the wrong century and locations are weird, even the danish and swedish vikings seem to live in fjords.
They even put a stave church in there as far as I remember, they weren't around at that time. They're also a bit early with the christianity, christianity came years later after Ragnar.
They also think that Ragnar discovered England by accident but actually vikings had known for quite a while where England was, they weren't so ignorant about the world. And if you want to start nitpicking, of course the costumes are terrible, the culture and behavior is odd, obviously the language is wrong. And some human sacrifice, that was just a mix of wrong things.
