Can any Norwegians explain why you keep your country's delinquents in what seems like a resort?

Killing them with kindness (metaphorically speaking) aapparently it's more effective for rehabilitation

Because the only right a convict loses is the right to freedom. It's pointless to punish someone for a crime, they ought to be rehabilitated or killed. Those are only options.

It's more humane, recidivism goes down and people often become decent contributions in society after they've been rehabilitated.

Also, you can't really blame most criminals. Chances are I'd be a criminal too if I were in a more desperate situation. But this might just my belief that people's character aren't set in stone.

Logical conclusion of Western thought - Norwegians have advanced to the point where they realise that it doesn't matter whether or not prisoners have nice cells.

>implying Russia treats their prisoners any better
>>
>>56440840
Well, shitty prison conditions are really there to satisfy the people who arent in prison. They don't actually achieve anything, aside from a being a minor deterrant for groups who wouldn't commit crimes anyways.

However, treating prisoners humanely helps them to rehabilitate, which is a good thing for society. Re-offence rates in Norway are marginal compared to the rates you have in the US.

That's basically it. Treating prisoners nicely is a price we pay both financially and emotionally in order to bring down crime.
>>

>>
>>56443998
In fairness, the worst offenders are kept in conditions which are considerably less comfy than the cell in the OP.

Isolation cells are more like pic related.

We do have different offenders though, but I think that's partly because we catch people before they veer too far off course. And part of that is giving small-time offenders humane treatment in prison.

The prisoner who would desmantle a bed to make a shank has probably been in prison before, and might have parents who have been in prison.

Prison states send a lot of people to prison.
Third world states send an unlucky few to their deaths.

In many ex-Soviet countries, prisoners are sent underground. Without any light at all, they become blind a few years in, sometimes their limbs look like step functions because no one resettles their broken bones after torture sessions.

t. I saw a lot of Georgian, Azerbajiani prisons.

Of course it feels unfair, despite the impressing rehabilitation rates. I'm a norwegian student, and that room is far better than the dorm room I've been living in for the past six years and have been paying out of my own hard-earned money for. Being locked in a cell like this for a limited time would actually be preferable, as it's a distraction-free environment with everything you need to study and progress.
