I don't believe that you can demonstrate that it has.
The problem re: military might that most people don't understand is that having the chess pieces on the board is more important than actually using them. You need them - not to use them - but because you don't want to not have them.
Japan's chess pieces are tied up on treaties with the West. We buttress their military potential heavily, but that doesn't mean they can go entirely without.

Arguing that a remilitarization of Japan, or a demilitarization, will somehow lead to more peace is plain absurd. Look at the last 71 years of peace for your answer.
