That's in yank dollars and units, I'm guessing. But right now you can get petrol in major cities for 0.75 USD a litre, but we pay a 0.30 USD a litre excise plus a 10% consumption tax.
>>56344012
It's $1.70 now

Our government promotes green energy, so the more a vehicle pollutes, the higher are the taxes. Same goes for type of fuel. Electric cars are completely exempt from taxing, which is why a tiny country like us manage to be Tesla's best market outside the US by far.

Prices are relative to income by the way, in Q2 of 2015 (latest figures) we spent 0.68% of our income on gas, the Americans 2.06% and the Brazilians 1.97% (Argentina not in survey).

And I always complain here when it´s time to refill the car.

Well, you can look at the unaffordability index which calculates the portion of a day’s wages needed to buy a gallon of gas as well. Won't change much.

Richer countries tax more for fuel since their residents can afford it and they want to drive people away from burning fossil fuels.
>>56346006
Australia's the fourth poorest country in the OECD?
>>56346111
Just saying that a low fuel tax is nothing to brag about.
