So?
>>56300238
Sounds right
>>56300306
You said that every country takes its nationality from its name, according to your point Unitedstatian is correct, since America is the whole continent.
>>56300368
United States of America
>Unititedstatian
>American
What sounds better?
>>56300305
>>56300398
Unitedstatian since American is the name of those who live in the Americas
>>56300368
America is the name of the country, United States refers to their form of government, a federal republic.
Mexico is the United Mexican States, Brazil is the Federative Republic of Brazil (used to be the United States of Brazil), Venezuela is the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, etc.
>>56300398
Unitedstatetian doesnt sound bad at all, the problem is it sounds weird in english
>>56300136
What is it in Italian, Estadounidense ?
>>56300461
>America is the name of the country
it isn't though
the name is United States of America
the name of the USSR wasn't "Soviet" for example
>>56300477
Statunitense, estadounidense is jn Spanish... i think other languages used it too
>>56300503
Show me the people that call Mexicans Americans.
>>56300503
Well that's what people are calling us and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop anytime soon.
>>56300503
And yet you wouldn't call a Soviet a "Unitedsovietrepublican".
It was a whole different thing too, there were whole countries inside the USSR. They were soviet but were also russian, ukrainian, kazakh, etc.

It's the United States of America, not the United Countries of America.
Burgers.
In icelandic an american is bandaríkjamaður which means United States Man
>>56300724
>people call you "unitedstatetian" though
Not in English, unless they're being ironic on the internet
>>56300907
English is an ugly language family what do you want me to do
as I say "Untitedstatetian" is not offensive in a lot of languages, however the correct translation would be "United States citizen"
I think it's even used in several of your official documents
>>56300964
>I think it's even used in several of your official documents
I really doubt that.

American is the common denonym for Americans here. Only pretentious leftist university faggots call them "unitedstatian", mimicking hispanic butthurt.
>>56301136
>I am a huge fucking faggot please rape my butthole yanks
I don't give a shit about your ameriwannabe fantasies
"estadounidense" in spanish translate to "estadounidense" in portuguese
http://pt.bab.la/dicionario/espanhol-portugues/estadounidense
stay mad and wrong :D
>>56301193
As I said only a few use that word, and they're politically biased.
>>56301221
>they're politically biased.
you seem a lot more politically biased than a dictionary 2bh
>>56301240
The dictionary is correct, "unitedstatian" translates to "unitedstatian". Hogwash is hogwash after all.
It's still not the common demonym used in media or spoke by the majority.
We're more relevant than the rest of the continent, anyway

>>56300807
State in this context originally referred to a country and it wasn't uncommon for Americans to refer to their state as their country, but then Lincoln happened and now states are just glorified provinces.
>>56301016
>Seppos
I thought that was just a cockney thing.
>>56302624
We are both
>>56304821
stale meme 2bh
>>56304821
The majority of people in the world are wrong.
Like another poster in this thread said. This is just a language thing. Estadounidense rolls off the tongue in Spanish but sounds plain awkward in English. Do you call China Zhongguo? And for that matter latinos have no right to bitch about this particular thing, seeing how they refer to all Asians as 'Chinos.'
>>56300136

>>56304821
>United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
seems like this post triggered canadians and unitedstatians
WE WERE THE FIRST TO GAIN INDEPENDENCE IN AMERICA THEREFORE WE ARE AMERICANS. WE EARNED THIS RIGHT, NOW GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS YOU EUROPOORS
If Americans are actually called "Americans" is simply because the USA were the first country in the american continent to had independence, with a true will of make a new country, also the first "united states" were just 13 small colonies on the east coast.
the roots of the "american culture" were made by anglo-saxon protestants, of course people of protestant religion ( Germans, Scotch-Irishs, Huguenots, Presbyterians scottish, Dutch, Swedes ) can assimilate to this culture, most if they change their names to anglos things.
Well of course, the american culture were ehanced by more stuff late immigrants ( Africans slaves, Irish, Italians, Ashkenazi Jews, Polish, Russians, Canadians Frenchs, Mexicans, etc... ) and the Folk influence of natives americans.
Natives americans were the first inhabitants yes but they are not really related to the "american culture" made by the anglos pilgrims.
