Is it true that Scandinavian countries can all basically understand each others' languages? Which one is best to learn?

how the fuck would anyone knows swedish automatically understand finnish?
>>
>>56201482
start with finnish, any language will be easy to learn after that moon language

If you're brown, learn Swedish.
If you're white, learn Norwegian.
If you're a liberal, learn Danish.
If you're yellow, learn Finnish.
If you're inbred, learn Icelandish.

to actually answer your question:

all Nordic languages except Finnish come from the same roots but are mutually intelligible. They can kind of understand each other, just like a speaker of Spanish can semi understand some words a speaker of Portuguese can (but closer)

Finnish is different from the others

Norwegian is the best one to learn. Grammatically compact and a vocabulary that will equip you with a good general understanding of Swedish and Danish speakers (while same cannot be said vice versa, on the same level that is)

Kind of. Swedish is easy to understand for the average Norwegian, especially spoken, but Danish is only easy to understand written, as pronunciation is way too different.

>learning a language that has barely anything in common with other world languages
>except Estonian and maybe Hungarian and that's only grammatically similar but sounds and looks alien
>somehow helps in learning other languages
wew

Only thing it might do is that it proves to you that you are a big enough autist to put hundreds and hundreds of hours into learning things that have very little practical use.

Icelandic is the best language but probably the least useful.

Sure it's glorious, but it still has very little practical use in the modern world. However, given the current increasing amount of transgenders and the dilemma with should we call the freak he or she, Finnish could solve that issue pretty efficiently with its lack of genders. As a bonus we'd get more spurdoposting.

The Scandis can't really understand us without learning our language, except for basic words we share.
Norwegians and Swedes can kind understand eachother well enough.
No one can understand the Danes, not even the Danes themselves can write their own language properly.
And no one can understand the Finns except for the Finns.
Faroese and Icelandic are mutually intelligible, Faroese sounds like funny Icelandic.

I thought Danish and Norwegian were the closest? At least in terms of writing; I know the pronunciation is different.

One day I will learn your beautiful language though.

Nynorsk is closer to Danish. Bokmål is closer to Swedish, and most Norwegians don't write in Nynorsk.
>>
>>56202534
Danish and Norwegian are the closest written, but completely different spoken. Swedish is the most intelligible for us overall.
>>
I remember a Swedish guy posted about visiting Legoland and a lost Danish kid started crying because he was ignoring him because he couldn't understand what the kid was saying.
>>
>>56202614
Actually, it's the opposite. Bokmål is closest to Danish, while nynorsk is often compared to Swedish. The difference being that nynorsk takes ground in our dialects and some of our language before being cucked by Danes, while bokmål is mostly Danish tweaked to fit our spoken language more closely.

inaccurate, Icelandic and Faroese are not intelligible with the continental languages and are not intelligible with each other either

>>56202447
Faroese is not intelligible with Icelandic, are you high?
not in the sense that the continental languages are
written Faroese is just localised Icelandic much like bokmål is localised Danish but the spoken languages are pretty alien with almost every vowel pronounced differently

on the other hand Swedish and Norwegian are essentially dialects of the same language and arguably Danish too
