teeth aren't even meant to be white, they should be a sort of off-grey color. A lot of teeth whitening products actually strip away the enamel.
Look into teeth bleaching, but it can damage your teeth still. Talk to a dentist.

I was lucky and moved to the US when I was only 6 and my dad had a good dental plan with work, so I got a load of treatment when I was young and my teeth are pretty decent now.
I have the money to get more treatment if I wanted, but I think they're pretty good anyway, so I would be spending a lot of money for little improvement

We're probably less memetically obsessed with cosmetic dentistry than the yanks, but orthodontics and dental surgery are a part of the guaranteed expense of raising a child amongst the Australian middle classes. It will probably get worse as more kids have mixed ancestry and cop jaws that are the wrong size for their teeth.

Teeth are naturally yellowed. If somebody has pearly white teeth they bleached them or just got out of a cleaning where the dentist literally scrapes off the top layer with surgical tools then bombs them with fluoride.

I think it's expected to have them clean (not white, but at least a very light shade of yellow). Straight or gaps don't matter too much, unless it's obtrusive.
Having crooked teeth is a sign that someone is from poor background because poor people typically can't afford braces and stuff as they tend to be horribly expensive here.

Apart from maybe Cuba, all health care systems have an element of user pays. Often the biggest omission is dentistry because traditionally you could just wait until the patient needed dentures, at much less expense to the state.
