Why is this language still called English?
No offense but honestly it received its name historically, yet today England has nothing to do with it and the majority of English speaking people speak what is called American English. I even knew one guy that literally called it American like "I don't speak English, I speak American."
And all the thing is especially confusing for an unexperienced foreigner who is not all that into that historical things, and they hear "English" and wonder why it is called like that if it is mostly Americans now who speak it.
Why have they not changed its name to "American" yet?

No.

They differ greatly.

You should know best, Chang, that the Earth language is Chinese.
>>55881141
Sorry, Pierre. If the British empire never happened then English as the lingua Franca wouldn't be a thing today. I know you are psychologically incapable of accepting that the English have achieved anything in history but I'm afraid this is one thing they definitely did.
>>55881095
what they probably don't mention to you is that British accents are considered much more attractive and interesting
>>55883924
No, just America. Nobility spoke French in the past. Our old trains have french as second language, you can see their signs. When latin became obsolete French substituted it until the 20th century. It's mostly the influence of the US that made English so popular.
>>55879372
Globish?
>>55883770
Yeah but there are about twice as many non-US anglophones as that anon made it appear by citing only the UK. US has about 70% of worldwide native speakers.
