If you want to understand indigenous German culture for the sake of comparison, it basically boils down to calling the police on your neighbors for having children who are playing slightly too noisily, throwing tantrums over the perceived thoughtcrimes of others, and video games where you work (think Truck Simulator, Forklift Simulator, etc.) being the hottest sellers.

Well how about that. I stand corrected. That being said, I was thinking more about modern contexts, where women are working at offices separated from their families for extended periods of time. Women have indeed worked long before the law expressly allowed them to do so, but it was usually things like teaching, farm work, telegraph operator, etc. They were not given abundant opportunities to mingle with other men outside of their husband's company.

In the English speaking world, it's commonly accepted that your adult children follow the path they choose, and if the parents don't approve of their career choices, spouse or whatever else, that's just too bad. When people are not encumbered by social expectations, it opens up a great space for personal growth and allows the country to develop a rich cultural tapestry. Take the United States.
