Vientiane in Laos is directly on the border with Thailand.
Phnom Penh is pretty close to Cambodia's border with Vietnam.
Cambodian situation is a result of territorial expansion by Vietnam. Thailand did the same to Laos, but I can't remember if they moved the capital to Vientiane before or after that, but I think it was after.
Also, the two Congos have their capitals right next to each other, Kinshasa and Brazzaville. The capital of Chad is pretty close to Nigeria from memory, but it's on the other side of Lake Chad or something.
It's a pretty common situation I think, having a capital quite close to one border, with a hinterland that was expanded into over the history of the cunt.
