Why do people singing in English sing in the American accent? Is American accent just musical or is this how it has always been?
>>
Because our accent sounds better.
>>
Here's an example from Australia:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjzeNZTWKck

It seems as if people tend to adopt a more neutral voice while singing, for whatever reason.
>>
>>53800842
Not all of them do.

>>
What's more likely; everyone magically sings in an American accent or Americans talk the way everyone sings?
>>
2bh I'm glad lorde sings in a yank accent, she'd sound like flight of the concords otherwise.
>>
>>53800842
Dunno, but it bugs the fuck out of me.

>>53801330
But it's not a 'neutral' voice. To you it might be, but to me that's a clear American accent he's singing with.

There are many exceptions though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WxPH_G8iyg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91eiLgX-i2k
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qtWjpf1QQE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-1Gvlskxv

Definitely more common for Brits to sing in their native accents than Australians though.
>>
>>53801727
Does it matter? It means that either everyone wants to be American or that Americans have the most beautiful accent.

Either way you lose.
>>

Because "American English" is normal English.

I hate to break it to you nerds but the reason Brits and Aussies usually have an easier time putting on an American accent than the other way round is because American English IS default English.

The other accents are literally just slurring their words like they're intoxicated.

I mean Christ, AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICES THIS SHIT?
>>

That's because you need a cultural and musical legacy to inspire you to sing in your native accent :^)

Aight, true reason right here:

>centuries ago, Americans still retained the British accent

American living in Britain here. Americans that think their accent is default or neutral are just incredibly isolated and have absolutely no self-awareness, a few fucking idiots even think they "don't have" accents. You pronounce loads of things differently than they are written, and I often have a very hard time making myself understood.
>budder instead of butter, wadder instead of water
>erb instead of herb
>potato instead of potato
>mannaise instead of mayonnaise
>plummer instead of plumber
>muzik instead of music
This could go on for a very long time. I don't know what kind of idiocy you must posess to think that your accent in a language your country didn't even invent is the "default" version or that you have ascended to some sort of god-like status that means you don't even have an accent.

Also these threads are always full of Americans that buy into this "we speak ShakespearIan English, it's the Brits that changed!" horseshit. There are isolated communities of people living off the coast of Virginia that have retained their colonial accents due to isolation, and guess what, they are basically just English West Country accents from today. Look up "Tangiers Island".
