Why do people singing in English sing in the American accent? Is American accent just musical or is this how it has always been?

The NZ and Aussie accent are the result of English, Irish and Scottish children mixing with each other in schools, the Aussies had slightly more Irish influence (since many convicts were Irish) and we had more Scottish influence. Both are mainly influenced by Southern English accents though
