Because we were talking about the impact society has on the developing mind and it is harder to pinpoint that with national examples in our day and age as (I presume) we both aren't experts on certain nations(maybe not even our own). A nation can have defining characteristics which border on socio-economic or religious factors anyway, so it is not like we should separate those concepts from nationhood. It would be easier for an Eastern European to assimilate in another Eastern European country or for a Western European to assimilate in another Western European country, but we can't really define perception(in regards to how its shaped by society) in regards to regions. It would be easier for a Bulgarian to assimilate into Bosnia rather than Albania, but harder than Serbia. No matter if these factors which influence one's perception are a result of ethnicity or not, they in turn influence the ethnicity.
