I have a question concerning Japanese keyboards/input methods.
If I'm not mistaken, to write kanji, Japanese people will write whatever word they're writing using kana, and then it'll get converted to kanji (correct me if I'm wrong).
But what about words where there's several different kanji? For example, if you want to write "Nagisa", there's different possible kanji (渚, 汀, 凪砂), so if you specifically want to write 汀 for example, how do you do it?

From my experience this just doesn't really happen. Japanese are generally bad at English, and tend to keep to themselves. Approaching random strangers for chitchat is not really a Japanese thing. It's not a "howdy, nice weather we're having how about them Yankees" kind of society.
The only times I've really been a approached by a Japanese person was when it was a Christian trying to invite me to their church.
Might be different elsewhere, but living in Tokyo I don't really see this. Might happen in Yoyogi park sometimes.
