In the end the he talks about how black identity became a part of America and people need to affirm that. I like his use of the word tribe because in this modern day, with the internet, younger kids don't have a problem with racism and are against it. Now there are different kinds of tribes that people can look to.
I understand why Obama always talks about family. He had his white and black family and he learned during his adolescence as he became more of an activist. He had to search for a new community because he evolved from his family, just like how his grandparents found each other and connected 18th century Kenya to 21st century civil rights.

To add to my last comment. He said how people need to first be taught, that in democracy, they have a power to use to choose how they want instead of things being a certain way that they can't do anything about. So like a poor person that would need health care. And then later once they learn more, they can have more advanced political discussion. I wish he would have talked about how this relates to what he said about tribes coming together and people being similar to each other. Like the 18 year old in Chicago and the 18 year old in Kenya with a violent father and a mother that committed suicide, or other difficult things like that. The book was his stepping through the struggle and anger in his head, and going through the process of overcoming it, but like the white guy asked during the questions, "What is there for a chance for these things to happen in the future?". And Obama responded with that he believed Americans can do it basically. But his current political generation is not doing it yet. He generalized about how Americans don't want to sacrifice.
