Do you imagine the person saying that phrase next to two people? or do you simultaneously imagine the person to be with three people or more until that point is cleared?

I usually imagine 3 people or more, I also imagine it being a group with males and females. Unless they use the feminine version of "friends" or if the context suggests few people or male only

I'm not anglo but I lived 10 years of my youth in the USA so I feel like giving you a reply.

I usually imagine a male person, much like when people say "I'm gonna see a doctor" I imagine a male doctor. It's like male is the standard in my brain.

I'm not anglo but to me it depends on who's saying it. If a girl says "I'm with a friend" I'll assume the friend is a girl too, if a guy says it I'll assume it's a man.

It's more like the gender doesn't come to mind for me. I don't picture anything. I'm not thinking, "might be a male, might be a female"...Genuinely it just means they are with a person that they are friends with, I don't really wonder what the gender is because at this point in the convo it's irrelevant.

If I said "Estoy con alguien", what would you think?
