YES, it was (not that cs go bullshit)
More than 10 years ago, when only a small amount of people could afford a pc, everyone played at computer clubs. As I remember it was about 10 rubles for 1 hour (it was REALLY cheap). Clubs were full of people, kids, teenagers, adults. At that moment there was cs 1.5 or something. That old menu with a CT guy with a helmet. My personal favorite maps were cs_assault and cs_mansion. Every one played it.

I built a computer for the first time 2 years after BF2 came out. It was amazing going from small static maps in CS to huge 64 player maps where you need planes or helicopters unless you want to spend an hour walking across the map, tanks and artillery and resupply drops, there are goddamn aircraft carriers with aircraft and anti-air guns, and there was true sniping with bullet drop (that glorious feel when someone is sprinting and jumping to cover a mile away and you can barely see them but you lead them with the crosshair an inch above and ahead of them and get a headshot somehow). Too bad the online community turned to crap soon after with everyone playing only karkand map and no squad/commander collaboration.

Sure, every boy from the age of 8-20 played it in its heyday. I was around 12-13 at the time and I along with my friends were hooked. It didn't get much TV coverage of course since gaming was still a shunned hobby, not like today with e-sports shows, streams etc. Some guys even made a map of parts of my home town and our school. I had been playing it since some time in the beta and it just kept getting better. Then Condition Zero came...urgh.

That said I never got BR and Russian fascination with games like CS (and others). I guess because it was so cheap and easy to play.

My PCs always were shit for CS. First one was built in 2003, CS:S lagged like crazy. Then I bought a laptop in 2008, damn Core2Duo couldn't do shit in games. After that I bought another laptop in 2012, with nice and dandy i7 this time. But it's not that good anymore because, you know, it's 2016. But I have no money for a new one after Russian economy went down the hill. I hope I'll manage to buy some decent PC in 2018 or 2019.

sadly they are pretty much dead now, at least where i live

you would go there in a saturday morning and only come home late night. it was such a great time.

we mainly played warcraft 3 TFT, cs1.5/1.6, C&C, diablo 2, age of empires 2. those were the best lan games at the time

Thanks for the offer anon, but I would make a shitty friend. I never know what to say and a childhood of being told no one cares what I had to say left me irreversibly feeling the same towards others. Besides, I don't play games anymore. I haven't enjoyed it in years. Don't know if it's just me or if games are just shitty now (actually tried GTA V a few weeks ago but was extremely disappointed compared to the ps2 generation GTAs)

Most of that stuff applies to a lot of people here but one thing I realized is that people are extremely perceptive of your projected confidence.

Just relax, don't attach any value (I mean zero value) to the opinions of others and you went place undue expectations on yourself (to acquire their friendship).

>(actually tried GTA V a few weeks ago but was extremely disappointed compared to the ps2 generation GTAs)
I know this feel. I will never live that youthful joy and innocence of playing GTA during middle school and high school. Now I feel like games are just a procession.

I recently begun learning other languages and playing games without any competitive pressure and purely for my OWN enjoyment. I advise you to do the same

Steam was, and still mostly is, fucking garbage. I understand their reasoning for shutting down WON but fuck for the average schmuck there was no reason to. It didn't even work half the time. Also CZ and 1.6 were shit.
>>
>>53431682
>Just relax, don't attach any value (I mean zero value) to the opinions of others and you went place undue expectations on yourself (to acquire their friendship).
Easier said than done, but even when I'm successful at it I just have no idea what to respond to people with other than very short answers, let alone think of things to talk about. My mind is a blank.
>I recently begun learning other languages and playing games without any competitive pressure and purely for my OWN enjoyment. I advise you to do the same
Listening to language tapes when exercising is fun and makes it go by faster. I've given up on games though. I even tried The Witcher and MGS Ground Zeroes and couldn't get into them (even though MGS1-3 were some of my favorite games ever).

>My mind is a blank.
Same thing used to happen to me. I stopped placing that hovering 'I am going to disappoint them' thought on the top of my head and acted completely naturally. I figured, if they'll hate me for what I truly am, they're not worth having as friends. Try it once and you'll begin developing confidence, anon. Once they see something genuine and nice in you they'll reveal their own shortcomings and open up to you.

I also have the aussie shitposting mentoring to thank. No one would believe a true Sudanese poster wouldn't try to appease people on an online forum because of his background and shithole
>muslim
>black
But I broke through that with rampant shitposting and in the process had a lot of nice conversations with people from America, France, Faroe Islands, expatriates in Japan, menabros, etc.

I think you should try it. You'll have a lot of fun in the process and you'll gradually stop putting other people's opinions ahead of your own self-evaluation.

I underwent the same transition. I used 4chan as an expressive outlet because there was no time limit and pressure to carefully compose my posts, but later with practice I improved immensely IRL. I began reading tech websites and discussing the latest news with people outside the mobile phone and computer.

And best of luck anon on all future endeavours, hopefully we'll meet another time (maybe even oustide 4chan, who knows) :)

Speeds were slower back then I don't think that's a surprise. You always pay a price for convenience, I'm just sad that so many people were willing to pay that price. People new to the hobby don't even have any idea of downloading patches piece meal since every company has some sort of launcher or distribution platform. Easier to control.

It's been more than a few years but honestly was there anything wrong with 1.5? I never played pro so I'm probably overlooking things but it just felt like a really solid game where nothing really needed to be changed. Then came 1.6 and Source and so on and it never really made any sense to me.
