We earn less but our living costs are lower, we have a higher birthrate, our childcare is better, our students are smarter, there are more university places and apprenticeships available, there's less crime in our cities because we're whiter, and unlike the west we've gotten rid of a lying government before and won't believe Berlin's crap a second time.

I was living in Magdeburg for 5 months and it felt normal, it's full of commieblocks and it's so obvious that it was before part of East Germany, but I didn't have any problem there.

Blame the Brits, Magdeburg experienced some of the worst bombings in WW2 and the majority of the city was completely flattened, otherwise they would've have had to rebuild it with heartless blocks.

Not as daily drivers, but I know of several people in my town who have preserved them in their garages, and there are probably more that I don't know of. After the reunification you couldn't -give- these buckets away so a lot of folk just held onto them, and East German mopeds in particular are still hugely popular with the youth because they have a grandfathered higher top speed than modern mopeds and are rugged and easy to mod, well preserved ones costing as much as new scooters.

Not everyone is, but the share of both left wing voters and right wing voters is higher than in the west. The East is the only part of Germany where the Left is part of state government coalitions and where the NPD (nazis) has state government parliament seats, the west is a lot like America and only ever votes SPD (center left) or CDU (center right).
