Python is a shit tool that's easy to use. At my university they teach it to Natural science students early in their bachelor because it's easy. Most of them will never use it for much but the people who actually do real calculations like physicists have to learn C++ third year because a toy like python becomes useless one you're applying it to real world problems.

Also, C++ underwent some serious changes since C++11; modern C++ is very different from how it was in the past and heavily focusses on concepts such as meta-programming and value semantics rather than OOP.
When it comes to C++ exceptions, depending on your compiler their functionality and performance may differ. Practically, it doesn't take exception classes in C++ but you can throw and catch literally anything. Keywords such as "throws" don't exist as far as I know.

I've never worked with OpenCL. I do have some experience with OpenGL though. OpenGL comes with a myriad of pitfalls and I generally wouldn't advise anyone to ship professional software using just pure OpenGL - unless they ship it with a system specifically built to run it. I know its purpose. However, in order to use the GPU you need to compile a program which runs on it, right?
