Why do many people in Eastern European countries wear Crosses and pretend to be "Christian" or "Orthodox" but then don't follow the religion in any way and regularly go against what it says?

Well, I'm an atheist, but I attend my church every week and so is all my family. I don't think that it's possible to separate Christianity and national cultures in Europe, I mean, at least in those countries that still have some national culture.

Look up the religion of people in Poland. >80% consider themselves catholic. Now compare this to people you know. Does a vast majority of people around you go to church every Sunday? Do they refrain from eating meat and partying on Friday?

Nitpicking those parts of religion that fit their narrative is nothing new. Why else would you think Christianity has broken into so many different schools? It's metaphorical when it collides with your choices in life, but it is gods word when someone else breaks it. Same shit in Islam, Judaism (and I would believe in Asian religions too)

There are about 40% of dominicantes and I would say that these people are quite conservative. Generally speaking it's a very complicated question that requires some serious studies, for example there are many people like Wolniewicz who are atheists but they share conservative values, while there are also many Catholics who are hardcore liberals (eg, "Więź". "Tyg. Powszechny").
This literally applies to every single person who claims to be christian.
