Arriving with guns, horses, plate armor, and steel gives you a bigger advantage than chainmail and iron weaponry. More importantly, the Spaniards met a more sophisticated polity that had a situation ripe for foreign conquest. Without a hundred thousand non-Aztec people rebelling, the Spaniard would have had no chance.
