Aight, this is how it goes. There was never a Slavic invasion. Not in that sense of war and conflict. The Bulgars from the northern shores of the Black Sea kicked byzantine ass to earn their right to settle here. The slavs around these parts weren't very numerous, but we know for a fact that they had a very good diplomatic relations with the Bulgars. Other than petty conflicts, there were never any wars.
The Bulgarians adopted Christianity because there already were quite a lot of Christians among the common folk (freedom of religion and all), and with the baptizing of Boris, it pretty much became official. However, the bulgars nationalized the church, because they knew the influence the byzantines would have over them. Nowdays it's hard to imagine how ballsy this was for it's time. With the adoption of the Christian faith, naturally there was a huge import of Christian culture and education. And finally, here's the kicker - Bulgaria became a cultural and spiritual center for everyone north of the byzantine borders. Slavs loved it because they were already well accepted, and most importantly - the languages were very similar. Both ethnic groups (bulg/slav) being from the Indo-Iranian branch, they had very many similarities in their languages and communication was easy. That's pretty much the biggest contribution from Bulgaria to the European scene - the huge import of spirituality and education amongs the (what would later become some of the most numerous folk around these parts) Slavic world.

I was browsing /int/ calmly at this cold rainy night while I suddenly saw your flag appearing in my feed. This has caused great pain to my memory. When I was a kid, Greece had still drachmas and things were still relatively cheap, but not in all cases
I happened to be a normie "reee" kid, playing football and PSX, but mostly football since console gaming was boring as fuck some days. So at some point, like most kids do, I asked my dad to buy me a nice foot ball so that I could play with my friends because the balls of my school were botched balloons that looked like the face of the median kosovar muslim. I was persistent and eventually he took me to a shop to buy a ball. Out of all foot balls, I chose a beautiful Mitre Ultimax with a small badge of Premier League
It was shiny and beautiful, I really enjoyed playing ball with it. Some day me and my friend were playing football while suddenly one of them kicked it a little bit too high and it ended up inside the backyard of a house that was inhabited by an albanian kid we used to called Iglit, who we used to call Neoklis in Greek
Since it was my ball, I went to his house to ask my ball. Neoklis denied me to enter his house and he went as far as to deny that the ball had gone in there, even though 8 kids had seen it gone in there. By the time I called the other kids, Neoklis got inside and he wasn't opening his front door. He had just stolen from me a 10000 drachmas ball, the fucking douchebag. But I got my revenge after some months, when I broke two windows of his house during the night, not too late though but his family was slow enough and they didn't caught me. Little Iglit has paid for his sin but I still didn't get my ball back.
This is why I don't like your flag and it has triggered me with this bad memory. Please leave 4chan forever, I don't want you to steal anything from me ever again.

Disbelief on the basis of what? There's practically nothing known about the Bulgars of antiquity on the vector of linguistics. Not to be unfair to Slav bros, but Bulgaria was on the way of becoming a major power while Slavs still hung around pseudo-kingdoms in clans and confederations (at least the ones in close proximity to the Balkan political/cultural affairs). Even if I grant you that the Bulgar language was Turkic, why on earth would this equestrian major military force just drop their own language and adopt that of someone who at the time was geopolitically inferior to them?

Even if that were true, it's one thing to learn a few words to get along with caravans and militias, it's a whole different world when you establish an entire tradition of literature and religion from an alien culture. Especially since it's well known that despite centuries long conflict with the eastern roman empire, the Bulgarian elite (rulers including) more often than not send their children to the byzantines to get their education before they were trusted with any real power. If your proposition were to make sense at all, it should've been the greek language and traditions that would've been this openly plagiarized, given the fact that many Bulgarians, despite the animosity, knew greek and looked up to greek culture from the very beginning of their relationship. It just doesn't make sense is all. I maintain there was little emulation between Slavs and Bulgars because there was enough in common already.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Bulgarians, is in fact, Thracians and Slabs, or as I've recently taken to calling it, masterrace and slavshits. Slavs are not an ethnic group unto itself, but merely a linguistic group made useful by based Bulgars, a vital group thanks to which Europe exists.
Many /int/ users mistake Bulgarians for Slavs every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the Bulgarian group is often called "Slavs", and many of /int/olerants are not aware that it is basically the Bulgarians, a Southern European masterrace.
There really are Slavs, but Bulgarians are no part of it. Bulgarians are different, much more civilized and stuff. This is essential for you to realize. Slavs often Bulgarians Wends, but basically it's Slavs with Bulgarians added. All the so called "South Slavs" are really Bulgarians.
