This happened to me as well, some old dude started talking to me as we waited for the train. In general people are more social when you're traveling by train than by bus. Maybe because trains are the least individualistic mode of transportation there is (at least on land), based on the number of passengers and frequency of stops. So there's more of a connection between passengers.
