Spain was a decent colonizer in the Philippines. Taxes were lower than those of American counterparts and we weren't treated like slaves by the Spaniards, we only revolted because we were treated as a 2nd class citizen by Spain, but overall, Spain did a pretty good job in the Philippines. Basically, without Spain, there wouldn't be Philippines.
We don't hate Spain but we don't really think much about Spain either. It's just that every achievement they had in this country were overshadowed by Imperialist America during the 1920s.
