Hi, /int/. I am a Japanese guy who speaks English well. Maybe not perfect English but better than most Japanese. Please ask me about Japan or anything you want. I want to enjoy talking with you and practice my English.

Also please correct my mistakes if you want. But you don't have to.

What's the political situation like in Japan?
Never understood it.
>>
>>52793595
Basically, since the end of the World War II, The Liberal Democratic Party has been in power. This is like a center-right party. Maybe like the American Republicans.

Most Japanese people do not care about politics and not so many people vote. I think like 30% at last election.

Is that what you wanted to know?
>>
>>52793688
Sure, yeah.
Is there any real issues there, besides China, the economy and the aging workforce?
What's the deal with subculture of younger Japanese guys being shut-ins who watch anime and sit on the computer for days on end?
>>
>>52793567
What do you think of xenophobic Japanese people?
>>
>>52793567
Do many people in Japan speak/know basic English?

Would it be easy for a gaijin to travel without much knowledge of the Japanese language?
>>
>>52793567
How much does a pair of used panties typically cost there?
>>
>>52793775

Those are the big issues I think. Of course Japan has many issues like most countries. But Japan is safe and rich, not so many problems as other countries.

>What's the deal with subculture of younger Japanese guys being shut-ins who watch anime and sit on the computer for days on end?

I think it's an interesting issue. And I don't know the answer. I think maybe it is related to some kind of comfort? I don't know how I can say it. Japan is very safe and comfortable. And now we can get many things we want instantly. Like the porn, food delivery and so on. So some guys behave like this. Also Japan is a society of very hard work. So some people reject this I guess.

I think they are narrow minded, but I can understand this feeling. Japan has been for itself for thousands of years. So I think fearing outsiders is natural to an extent.

>>52793845
Most Japanese have basic knowledge of English as we learn English in school a little bit. But most Japanese can not speak or use English as the English class is just about writing and reading. Not speaking or listening. I think you can travel and enjoy Japan without knowledge of Japanese. Many people come to Japan as tourists.

>>52793907
This is just a joke or fantasy. These are not real used panties. Just they put some perfume or something on it to make it smell like a woman, supposedly. You can find these in a vending machine in some AV shops. I don't know its cost, sorry.

>>52795445
How old do you have to be to buy porn or alcohol or tobacco?

Also, as a general tip for English, most of the time "you are" is contracted to "you're", pronounced "ゆう うる(う)" or "よる" There are other such common contractions such as:
>will not
Won't
> we are
We're
>cannot
Can't
>Could/would not
Could/wouldn't

Don't stress too much over the way pronunciation can change on letters in English. At least here in America, we are pretty good at understanding how people's dialects and accents translate, and we can interpret their words even if they speak radically different to us. That is, a northener and a southerner speak different to an African or Australian or Islander, but we can all understand each pretty well.

I am very advanced in English however. You can ask me any question about it and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

Okay, now that I got that out of the way: apparently the recreational drugs (outside of cigs and liquor) that Japs do are amphs. There is especially a methamphetamine craze in some parts of Japan and cocaine can be found at a few, select locations.

Unfortunately, the Japanese government blatantly lies and says shit like, "MDMA will make you overheat and die". The Japanese are getting cucked from their government.

t. Tyrone Biggums

You're dumb. Codeine syrup and alcohol is not "healthier" than heroin. There is nothing inherently "unhealthy" about heroin. It is reviled because it is extremely addictive, not because it's unhealthy.

Codeine syrup in the amounts necessary for your nigger drink is actually unhealthy, though, just because of the other chemicals in the syrup.

I guess you want to be a nigger, so I'll let you be one
>>
>>52795870
>lean
>less addicting than heroin
It's not that it's less addicting, it's that by the time you're pumping that good number 3 into you, you're already addicted. Doing heroin is a sign of addiction and a sign of being poor as fuck (as heroin is a relatively cheap opiate).

As a follow up, while "alcohol and tobbaco IS 20" is technically correct, it sounds awkward. As a general rule, use "are" rather than "is" when you are talking about more than one thing, or a group.

That is, "Coke IS great" vs "Coke and Sprite ARE great."

"Is" is actually a form of the verb "be" which changes tense often in English. "Is" is the present or future tense of it to be used with pronouns such as "It, he/she, that, such..."

"Was" is like "is" but refers to the past. "He WAS great, but not he isn't."

"Will be" is a strictly future version of "be". "We will be going."

"Are" is like "is" but for groups: "They are, we are..."

>>52795958
And good luck in Chinese! You seem to have English down pretty well. If you hang around English speakers enough, you'll absorb some of the nuances that just cannot be book-taught.

No not really. 55% of Americans see China favorably. I'm one of them.
China has done little wrong to us, and are logically trying to contend with us surrounding them with our forces.

In comparison, 5% of Americans saw the USSR favorably in 1988.
The USSR constantly waged proxy war up till 91' and threatened us with nuclear annihalation multiple times. They also personally established communist dictatorships all across the world, unlike China.

Why don't you write something in Japanese?
Take a picture of the newspaper. Maybe a closeup of the date and time at the bottom right on your computer.

Or just write something in proper Japanese on a paper with the time and date.

That'll make this thread better.
>>
>>52796186
"Little" compared to the USSR. Remember, you have to read the ENTIRE post to understand the point.

Considering China gave no support to NK invading SK, and MacArthur and our forces pushed past the Yalu river into China, China was perfectly in the right to react to American domination of Korea.

China also has given NK very little support since the 90's. It's hardly their puppet state.

I want to know to what extent are true the stereotypes we have about working in your country (if they even are), namely: people working overtime and not getting paid; people leaving their jobs at very late hours because being the first to leave is seen as lazy; women choosing not to marry because it would be impossible to keep up with family responsibilities and work at the same time, and they'd rather be independient. In the same vein, do people in your country seem to hold certain stereotypes about people in south and/or north american countries?

If you don't mind, some personal questions too: What is your favorite japanese food? What are your opinions about japanese media or asian media in general? (it could be anything here really depending on your interests) What about media on the western hemisphere? What places would you recommend to someone looking to visit your country? Personally Sapporo and Kyoto are on my travel list.

Hey, sorry I'm doing some work now, but I'll try to answer more questions as I can from now on.

It is true, many Japanese people work very long hours and overtime. It's a problem. And I think it would help the birthrate if this is not so.

>In the same vein, do people in your country seem to hold certain stereotypes about people in south and/or north american countries?

Not really. There aren't very many South Americans in Japan. We don't think about them. Sterotypes about Americans are: fat, loud, wear shoes inside the house

My favorite Japanese food is Takoyaki. I think Japanese media and asian media like drama and talk shows and so on are pretty terrible. I like Japanese movies though. Western media is OK. I like American dramas like Breaking Bad.

>What places would you recommend to someone looking to visit your country?

Most people go to Tokyo and Kyoto. I would recommend them for modern and traditional Japan. Sapporo is good if you like skiing.

There are various reasons, but I can say those two

>>
Having lived both in the United States and Japan, I have suffered the common problem of balancing one’s identity: whether to stay essentially in one land and occasionally poke one’s head out to say hello to the other; whether to play the eclectic magician and pull from both roots the cure to the disease of nationalism; whether to proclaim one’s allegiance to humanity and humanity alone, thus avoiding the question altogether. It would be wholly dishonest to say I have dealt with the problem well; but in my personal experience I have seen transformations of my thought, whose culmination isn’t so trite as “I have gained useful experiences from both cultures”!

But allow me to declare that I will approach this topic from the more fragile, Japanese side. My childhood, from years three to ten, was spent in Japan. Strangely, though I lived in Tōkyō—the center of action—my mind recalls almost a pastoral perfection from this period. This does not imply any geographic quality, but rather that life, because of my innocence, seemed detached: the summertime fireworks, with the delicious smoke, were severed from the piling of dark leaves and playing with sticks, and both of these were separate from the long walk along the river with friends, chasing after a milk bottle cap.
>>
Fly forward five years from my last year in Japan, and we are three years behind the present: there is a change; I live in Bothell; the mind is forming an opinion. During a summer visit to Tōkyō, I saw the sultry streets of my old home clearer than in any previous year, with all its ugly connectedness obvious: the odor of cigarettes and urine painted on every surface; people lined up to feed the machines of pleasure with their overtime pay; everyone buying a train ticket to go nowhere and do nothing, only to find a nervous comfort in their own nests again. This impression, almost oddly artistic by now, so thoroughly shattered the idyllic vision of my childhood city that despite the urgings of my family, I did not return to Japan the following year.

Though I would not discover the works of the author Ōe Kenzaburō until much later, I can see now that I was in the process of being uprooted by what Ōe calls the Ambiguous: a dissonance engendered by two contradictory impressions. This particular incarnation of the Ambiguous occupied me for two years, and for these years my only contacts with Japan were conversations with my Japanese mother, and the Japanese school that I attended on Saturdays, which was steadily becoming for me an annoyance. But (if the continued anachronism is to be pardoned) Ōe had spent his life in Japan, so for him the Ambiguous was unavoidable; for me, the situation was quite different: having spent half of my life in the US by this time, I saw myself a refugee, a vehement critic of that derelict nation, who through reason alone had justified the superiority of the country with the global language.
>>
But a slower change came in the autumn of last year: I began to renew my interest in Japan. It is difficult for me to ascertain exactly what caused this change, but two possibilities seem the most likely. First, my increasing frustration with one of my passions, mathematics, convinced me to find an alternative topic of research, so that I could shift back and forth. Second, my interest in literature as an art led me to an obvious starting point: works written in Japanese. But by now the obstacle is obvious: my ability to use the language had thinly escaped destruction. Thus began my intense study of Japan. And here I am, one year later: I am still reading Ōe; I have returned to Japan; I am unsure what the solution is, but endurance—what Ōe calls nintai—is my tentative answer.

Hey faggots: if it's "Lean" then it doesn't have Codeine. "Lean" specifically refers to the DXM-based form of "drank". It's "lean" as in "lite beer" or "lean beef", in that it's missing some good stuff.

Codeine syrup in a drink = "drank", "purple drank", etc. DXM syrup in a drink = "lean" implying "lean drank"
