Nah. Comparing to Russia it actually produces some machinery, electronics. Plus strong chemichal industry. They basically saved everything they had in soviet times. Their problem is not many countries are interested in their production except Russia.

Ukraine and Belarus are communist-engineered nations (much like Moldova, Macedonia, the commies are good at this) from regional identities of the same people. Kievan Rus was itself composed of several slavic tribes.

Moldova is based on Moldavia and it was one of three Romanian lands (others being Wallachia and Transylvania). Most Moldovans would unite with Romania, but not without Transnistria, which is the only reason why they're still separate states.
Macedonia is a mix of Bulgars, Serbs and Greeks that was always viewed as sort of a separate entity as part of Bulgaria and Serbia alike.
Same as them, Ukraine and Belarus have had a lot of history of their own between Kievan Rus' and today, they have different languages and whatnot. Belarus also had a lot of Polish influence. In fact, some would say that it's basically Orthodox Poland. So technically it's under Russian occupation.
