People have been taking about Automation replacing people since the turn of the century.
You don't understand that the problems isn't just the means of production. It is about consumption. After moving past a basic industrial economy, you move into a consumption based economy.
Automation isn't going to fix the vast numbers of empty homes and failing real estate prices. It is not going to fix falling consumer demand. It won't stop the saturation of the markets. Negative growth rates will follow, and then incomes fall and savings are wiped out as the government tries to print more money and raise inflation.

You realize if your productivity increases, like most of the developed world, even with stagnant or declining populations, housing prices increase because of more money.
China's population will peak in the 2030's and there are 1.4 billion. They will be younger on average than the US until 2020 or so.
Now go take a look at India where they did not institute a one child policy. Don't bring up "well they did not industrialize as early" because both countries got independence about the same time and even after 1990 India has still grown slower than China on average.

China will be just fine. Now that the one-child policy has been axed, more Chinese will be able to have Chinese babies without repercussions from the government.
The worker demographic crisis will be fixed within the decade and immigrants won't be necessary (unless they are Chinese). And even if there are less women than men, that just means the leftover men can just wed non-Chinese so that the Chinese genealogy will continue to be passed down into other gene pools; while the Chinese gene pool remains pure.
