Finnish and Estonian are up there in the hardest category.

English and Japanese are down there in the easiest category.

this is obviously not an exact science

You speak German, I guess.
So the easiest ones will be English, Afrikaans, Dutch and Frisian.
The hardest? Japanese probably.

Hardest is the Native American language from Mexico which has only 1 speaker who is a recluse and doesn't want to talk.

yep. it's just slapping syllables together with monotonic sound, literally zero pronunciation effort

the only hard things by the looks of it is the writing

If they had hands they'd probably be number 2 behind people. Even now they have it pretty good. I'd seriously consider trading hands for wings.

English pronunciation and spelling is actually harder than many other languages (e.g. Spanish, Italian), but its grammar is very simple since it has no cases and no grammatical gender. Italian is probably one of the most phonetic languages there is, while English is without a doubt one of the least phonetic languages.

Which languages are hard or easy is obviously very subjective, since it depends on what your native language is.

>>
>>52676699
afrikaans is by far the easiest language to learn as it is the most modern of spoken languages.
>>
>>52677751
However, I might add that Italian conjugation is a complete nightmare, since it has a zillion different tenses and moods. English conjugation in comparison is very simple.
>>
Easiest is probably korean or english

Hardest is finnish

It's also basically Dutch for retards, so that's no surprise.

If you live in a first-world country, are under 35 and cannot speak English, you are LITERALLY retarded.

Even putting aside how easy English grammar is, the sheer amount of exposure and English-language media should press it into your head.

Portuguese, because i have never saw anyone but natives speaking it properly, try saying "caralho"(the "r") or "pão"(the "~") correctly
>>
>>52683068
For example, I'm also learning German.
>learn new German noun
Must also learn gender and plural.
>learn new German verb
Must also learn past tense, special rules, and its changes depending on ich, du, sie, ihr, etc. Not devastatingly difficult, but can still trip learners up.

>learn new Japanese noun
No genders or plurals, just know the word and you're set, at least for speech.
>learn new Japanese verb
Just knowing the single word let's you know how to conjugate it any way you need, assuming you know how to conjugate.

Not for a European, your guys share a lot of chrackters with them.

The tones aren´t really that hard desu. The concept just feels very alien at the beginning and it takes some time so get used to it. The tones really sound different tho and they are only 4.

>>
>>52683671
Even after completing something like core 10k? I understand a vocabulary of 10,000 isn't very much, but the sentences if you learn them must cover all the grammar that you would see in Mishima, correct?

Okay. Try reading this for example:
http://daily.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/newsplus/1451135423/l50

It is confusing as fuck, even there are no difficult words.
>>
>>52683671
Reading is a different animal, as I specified, and Japanese has several different ways to express the same thing, especially colloquially, but I'm just talking about standard no-flair, Japanese.
>>
>>52676699

this:
>>52678381
>>52677751

It's entirely dependent on your native language(s). For example, most Euros consider Spanish to be easy, but I've spoken to multiple Japanese people who said they stopped studying Spanish due to its difficulty for them.
>>
>>52684021
I have japanese friends and they told me that only hafu can speak japanese well. And also those who lived in Japan since birth...
Just saying
>>
>>52683974
Yeah, I get your point.
>>
>>52676699
It probably depends on what you're first language is. Brits might find learning German easier than Indians would and Estonians might find Finnish easier than Turks would. Malayalam is completely bullshit though. Don't even bother.
>>
>>52683412
the ability to pronounce words in a language with a native-like accent is not part of what makes a language easy or hard to learn.

i bet you speak english with an accent, but still i'd say you're pretty fluent.
>>
>>52683174
Ouch. Remove the colon.
>>
>>52677110
It's very interesting how to me this would be the opposite.
It's probably because Portuguese is far closer to English than Japanese (an enormous amount of our words even share the same greek or latin roots, making certain words immediately recognizable to speakers of either one), just as Japanese is far closer to Korean than Portuguese.
>>
>>52677531

>Japanese is far closer to Korean than Portuguese.
But Korean is a language isolate. It's not related to any known languages.
>>
>>52685608
this i know. just wondering though, what are the differences between korean and japanese for the most part?
>>
>>52676699
For natlangs:

Easiest:
I'm not sure, but probably English or a Romance language. Obviously this depends on the speaker's native tongue.

Hardest:
For most people this would be any Polysynthetic language. F.e Mohawk and many of the Algonquin languages.
For writing a language, the hardest would definitely be a logography, e.g chinese

How easy it is to pronounce words should not be used to measure the difficulty of a language, specially because that varies wildly between speakers of different languages.
To me Japanese is one of the hardest languages I've ever tried to study. The entire thing is alien to me, and I've been watching anime for ages. I know how to recognize and say key words and sentences, but otherwise I'm stumped.
The grammatical structure is completely different from Portuguese, which makes it very difficult for me, regardless of the fact that word pronounciation is very similar to Brazilian Portuguese.

>>52685608
Of course. I just thought maybe they shared a few similarities, like language structure, honorifics and things like that? Is it wrong to say that it is easier to learn Korean if you're Japanese than if you are Brazilian?

Vocabulary is very different.
And so is grammar, although both are agglutinative.
