I live next to large Anglo Indian community in Melbourne and from what I can gather
- They look down on South east Asians.
- They only marry within the AngloIndian or English community
- Pretty much embrace all, aspects of English culture, Some even call England the motherland and regularly go to English cultural events like Debutants. They love the British royal family.
- Reject their indian roots and culture. Most look down on Hindu culture, and are predominantly Christians.
- Are offended if they are called Indian even if they look Indian. They like remind strangers, mainly whites that theyre Angloindians and not the usual currymuncher.
- Most feel more superior than the average currymuncher because of their Anglo blood.

> During the centuries that Britain was in India, the children born to British men and Indian women began to form a new community. (This process was replicated in many other meetings of European traders and colonisers across the subcontinent, including in Burma and Sri Lanka.) >These Anglo-Indians formed a small but significant portion of the population during the British Raj, and were well represented in certain administrative roles. The Anglo-Indian population dwindled from roughly 800,000 at the time of independence in 1947 to fewer than 350,000 by 2010. Many have adapted to local communities and emigrated to the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States.[1][8]
> Theres around 1 Million Anglo Indians living in Britain today.
I think they're basically integrated here, at least I've never heard of a community of them. Lighter skinned Indians usually fit fairly well into our culture anyway.

British Indians in general are seen as regular British people.

My mum's family is Anglo-Indian with some Dutch and Portuguese and my dad is white, so I'm sort of Anglo-Anglo-Indian.
>- They look down on South east Asians.
Somewhat. My great uncle actually lives in Australia and he doesn't like how the 'Asians are taking over'. I don't know for definite about the family over here, but that roughly matches what I think they think.
>- They only marry within the Anglo-Indian or English community
From the marriages in my family, that is correct
>- Pretty much embrace all, aspects of English culture, Some even call England the motherland and regularly go to English cultural events like Debutants. They love the British royal family.

Yep. If I was to talk about my family and leave out the part where they eat more Indian food than your usual Brit, you would think they're White Britons.
My great aunt and great grandmother are some of the most religious (Christian) people I know, but in a good way.
>- Are offended if they are called Indian even if they look Indian. They like remind strangers, mainly whites that they're Anglo-Indian and not the usual currymuncher.

In a way. They will exclusively use the term Anglo-Indian and never refer to themselves as Indians. Not sure about the superiority, but my grandmother says she would never go back to India because of how bad her family and Anglo-Indians in general got treated.

British-Indians are people of 'pure' Indian descent who live in the UK. They follow Indian traditions and religions, and they may have command of an Indian language besides from English. Anglo-Indians are primarily of mixed British and Indian descent and basically live a western lifestyle, are exclusively Christians, and only speak English.

Interesting. How do other Indians treat Anglo indians in India and in the British Diaspora?

During the time of the Raj, Indians treated Anglo-Indians like shit. My great-grandad would get arrested, all his cash taken and spend the night in a cell. My grandparents and great grandparents had to be smuggled out because the new Indian government wouldn't issue them passports.
Now, I think most Indians couldn't care about Anglo-Indians

Not that I know of

I thought Angloindians had alot of power during the british raj? Didnt the brits treat them better and gave them previleges the average indian didnt have because of their Anglo ancestry?
