You should be fine with a vacation, just don't go to the informal settlements. Walking around town is safe and going to the normal tourist places is fine. Most of the problems is in the very poor high crime areas in cities, they kill the people too loot their shops, the people here are too lazy too work so they blame the foreigners who work hard and are successful for their own problems.
