On paper yes, but that doesn't work for a country like Belgium, that relied on immigration for centuries. This isn't an issue with European migrants here, or Asian or even the small amounts of Latin American. It is only with Arabic/Islamic people, and this is universal, whether in Europe, America, India and so on.
We'll definitely have different viewpoints because of our country's different population and immigration history here. No, this isn't universal at all. I'm a second generation Portuguese and my family only is integrated because of good integration/assimilation policies of the 1990s. Same thing happens for most Italian, Spanish, Polish, Moroccan people around here. Those who arrived during the late 2000s or after don't bother integrating at all, just live in ethnic enclosures and don't give a fuck about anything. The main difference is that your countries were built on immigration, and where integration without state help is part of the "American" dream, with freedom, self-made man ideas and wealthy future. Here in Europe on the other hand we always had a more social approach to it, considering how highly different our respective cultures were even between a states regions. Most immigrants found it hard joining the society unless they got guided. In Australia and other countries on the other hand everyone has been seen equal at arrival. I went to Canada two years ago and I see this with Sikh and Chinese people, who do the best to be part of the already multicultural society. Those who are doing shit in Europe right now are all second generation muslims who were too dumb to get out of the shit themselves and took Islamism as an easier way.
Funny thing is there were more terrorist attacks in the 1980s then there are nowadays. Thanks to the internet and worldwide connection every single shit gets mediatized now though, and even dumb people get the chance to shout reactionist crap to the world, may they be liberal, left, conservative, right.
