Does anyone remember the treaty Russia and the US and Ukraine signed to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine in return for their nukes going to Russia?

I mean, really. Russia agreed it was Ukrainian, then changed their minds when it was convenient. Putin stabbed Ukraine in the back, no way around it senpai.

Königsberg is yet another example of the Russians doing what they do best: forcibly and without mercy removing the entire native population of an area, followed by the rapid settling therein of ethnic Russians.

It's a skill they've spent centuries trying to perfect. Königsberg, Crimea, all three Baltic states, Kazakhstan, Moldova... it seem they might have borrowed a concept or two from someone. A certain swarthy Austrian man comes to mind.

No, but it depends on who you ask.

The strait is located in its entirety within Turkish territorial waters, as it's only a few km's wide at it's widest.

The Russians, however, might tell you that they ought to have passage through the strait, for reasons I am sure you can imagine.
>>
>>52435102
Do you remember that time in 1990 when Bush Sr. promised Gorbachev that NATO would not move an inch to the East (East Germany) after German unification? If anyone was stabbed in the back, it was Russia when Ukraine initiated an illegal coup, annulled ties with Russia, whored themselves to the West, and banned Russian-language media in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine.

That's a single president saying something versus a signed, ratified, and legally binding treaty.

One is an opinion on a course of action by a leader, good for the leader's time in office, the other is an oath your entire government must observe.

Also,
>illegal coup
>"president" had to flee his own country after some fuckers sat in a city square for a few months

>annulled ties with Russia
>by kicking their Russian-funded dictator-lite out and responding to Russian retaliation for it

>banned Russian language media
>not Russian propaganda seeing as how the Kremlin owns most Russian media

Russia is an international pariah and it earns its as such status every day. And I say that as someone who's been there, has friends there, and loves the people. Their government is awful.

Keep swallowing that propaganda and being a useful idiot for Russia. The fact is, I probably couldn't convince you even with evidence on hand because you're just so unwilling to believe Russia could be in the wrong here as to make this argument asinine.

Maybe it's wrong that the US is funding NGOs in Ukraine, but Russia's sticky fingers were even deeper in that pie than you want to admit, and costing the Ukrainian people far more than some unseen unknown American conspiracy to take over Ukraine for no reason whatsoever other than to piss Russia off.

Finally, Russia in 1992 offered Kalingrad back to Germany for $50 million and Germany rejected it.

And are you really going to say Russia was wrong to force out the very same Germans who killed 21 million Russians and were putting them in death camps for 4 years straight?

Polish people completely supported the removal of Germans.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_and_expulsion_of_Germans_(1944–50)
>The displacements occurred in three overlapping phases, the first of which was the spontaneous flight and evacuation of ethnic Germans in the face of the advancing Red Army, from mid-1944 to early 1945.[10] The second phase was the disorganised expulsion of ethnic Germans immediately following the Wehrmacht's defeat. The third phase was a more organised expulsion following the Allied leaders' Potsdam Agreement,[10] which redefined the Central European borders and approved orderly and humane expulsions of ethnic Germans from Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.[11

You nigs supported the Potsdam Agreement in full.

That's because Russia mass imported Russians to Crimea to make it Russian. Same thing they did with Kaliningrad.
That is how Russia takes over territory. It's smart but still not legitimate. Crimea was rightfully Ukrainian territory and Russia LITERALLY invaded and took it over, and THEN forced a referendum.

Except that Ukraine was a defunct non state when they didn't follow their constitution to recreate their government. Thereby, the operating Ukrainian government recognized internationally was no longer a continuation of the one which signed those treaties and so Russia has no obligation to abide by them. Plus, the west backed creation of kosovo ("will of the people") was of the exact same making as crimea's independence, the only difference being that Crimea then joined Russia.
I'm a nationalistic westerner that realizes you'd have to be retarded to support western claim. Absolutely retarded.

I'm tired of everyone being self-centered cunts, but at least Russia is being lawful about it despite still being an asshole.
Howsabout we respect international laws from now on and when they're shit we try to neutrally reform them?

M8, the Ukrainians voided themselves as an entity when they didn't follow their constitutional requirements for re-establishing their government. The current entity internationally recognized as Ukraine is not the same entity which signed that treaty.
Plus, as aforementioned, Crimea willed itself independent by over 90% approval and then willingly became a part of Russia. When the USA and NATO backed Kosovo's independence it unwittingly set precedence for the same actions even when they are against it.
There's your law lesson for the day.
>>
>>52445022
One could try to undermine the approval rate, as the attendance was, according to some sources, reaching over 100% (as usual when post-tsarist Russia tries to establish her authority somewhere). IIRC independent observers was denied to access the peninsula when the voting was held.
>>
>>52445022
No, they were off by 1 to 2 percentage points of the requirement. They rounded it up - better than disbanding the government entirely when Russia was bearing down on them, already sending in fighters. There's YOUR lesson for today.

>Crimea willed itself independent
>with the Russian military already occupying the province

That's an act of war, senpai. The only reason Ukraine didn't respond to it as such was it knew who those "volunteers" were. Russia's a bully, they took Ukraine's nukes which it could have defended itself with and then they came back for more later. Their word, their honor, is garbage, and the world knows it.

The Russian government fucked up, and they deserve everything they get for it.
>>
>>52445153
There were many sources there saying such things while being upset that there were Russian flags everywhere, because they were so stupid they didn't realize they were Crimean flags. I don't doubt foul play in that arena desu, but that's why I hate international relations so much. It's nothing but cunts and assholes, you're either getting fucked or shitting everywhere.
>>
>>52445443
actually it was the US who forced ukies disarmament, not Russia. not only nukes, you even paid for the utilisation of their strategic bombers and such.
>>
>>52445443
Yep, I know m8 but that's still under the constitutional requirement thus voiding them as being the same entity as the one who signed that nuclear arms treaty. They flinched and broke the rules.
Kek, m8 we bully just the same. Are you fucking fifteen? International scene isn't about morality, everyone's a devil including us. I remain nationalistic regardless, but at least admit that a goats a goat.
It's good Ukraine doesn't have nukes, dumbass. It's just too bad the one that gave them away and remained protected from Russia no longer exists.
Get your babbytier emotions out of this.

Yes, but Russia agreed to it and signed that treaty saying it would respect the borders of Ukraine.

We just wanted all the eggs in one basket, so to speak, when it came to nuclear proliferation, and we knew that Moscow had a habit of not blowing the world up or threatening to use them, just like us - so we could easily work together, as we had for decades. But giving up the nukes made Ukraine vulnerable to Russian aggression, so they required Russia to respect their borders after the Soviet Union's breakup.

>>52445602
>they broke the rules
>as Russia was sending armed fighters into the country to annex territory

Yeah, time was of the essence faggot. Russia sure was following the rules, yessiree, attacking a country without, if we believe your claim, a government, just because they could. Isn't that a peach - at least they filled out the right forms, I heard there was 100% voter turnout and even the dead voted 90% to join Russia!

>a goats a goat
>muh realpolitik

Get out of here with that bullshit. This isn't the 19th century, and we sure as hell don't act like Russia does, even if our foreign policy is pants on head retarded.
>>
I don't think Ukraine would have been allowed to keep their nukes when they couldn't even keep their military. And unlike Russia, they didn't have the infrastructure to build or maintain them.
>>
>>52445602
>It's good Ukraine doesn't have nukes, dumbass
But it's bad in the same time, cause the lesson every single devil of international relations has learned from this crisis is that nukes and nukes only guarantee territorial integrity of a state and that there is no international mechanism to protect one's borders but the bare nuclear blackmail.

You're a useful idiot, senpai. I understand if you just want to be an edgy contrarian, but Russia's engaged in an actual war with people they had a treaty with just because they felt like it - your feelings don't change that.
>>
>>52446005
We do the same shit you halfwit. You're approaching this from a moral position rather than a purely nationalistic one, which is why you're so obviously retarded. We do the same shit. We haven't invaded any neighbors who we have treaties with saying we will not only respect their borders but their security as well. How many times will you come back to this point, "Oh boo hoo the US does bad things too you know!"

Jesus Christ, I realize we are not perfect, but as this image points out >>52442029 we are NOT talking about the US here. We are talking about Russia and them invading a country where their currently serving foreign minister (Sergei Lavrov https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances) is the same one who signed the damn treaty to respect that country's borders and security situation! For fuck's sake man, that is not a defensible position in the slightest. Stop trying to change the subject and make this about America doing something else. America can do bad things, that does not cancel out Russia doing bad things or make them any better.

the ukies were obligated to stay neutral in that treaty, the US was obligated not to involve in it's internal affairs as well.
both the US involvement and the euromaidan nullified the treaty, thus russia has no reason to obligate its terms anymore.
>>
>>52434305
Nope. Russia needs a port that can access the Atlantic during winter. It's northern ports cant do that. That's why the Sevastopol naval base is so important.

So why did the leader of Ukraine flee immediately to Russia when the going got tough if Ukraine was neutral? Why did Putin immediately seize Crimea if the government had just fallen, and it was not yet known who was responsible for what? Is neutrality being pro-Russian? Putin admitted in his documentary/propaganda film about Crimea that he ordered troops in the minute he knew Ukraine's leader had fled. Rather than find out who was behind it all and seek a diplomatic solution, he decided now was the time to start a civil war in a neighboring country.

If the US funded and executed this "coup" then why did it take so long to work and how did it have so much popular support? Why did the leader flee if his claim to power was legitimate, and he was not corrupt? Were some protesters in an icy square too much for his fragile psyche? Or were there really deep problems with the Ukrainian government?

Why did the US and EU not help more if it was their handiwork? Why did the head of the US diplomatic mission to Eastern Europe say "fuck the EU" in a leaked recording if it was a Western bloc attempt to pry Ukraine from its "neutrality"/Russia?

Really, Russia was fucking around in Ukraine's domestic politics for a long time. It's the pot calling the kettle black - how dare you do something I do all the time! A lot of corrupt politicians helped them out, looking for money and power; it wasn't hard but it wasn't right. So the minute people protest what was going on, it's a US involved coup? The US has NGOs to promote democracy, sure, but they're all over the world, and aimed at helping the country they're in, not against anyone in particular.

I'll never understand it. Russia really did try to justify this all after they had already acted, so hardly any of it adds up. The narcissism of it all - that small US NGOs aiding Ukrainians to protest corruption is really aimed at threatening Russia, as if everything the US or Ukraine do has to be about Russia - is baffling.
>>
>>52446660
Well, Russia has Kaliningrad. And IIRC Novorosiysk. If those ports are insufficient for Russia's needs, they could be developed and I think it would be cheaper than building this fucking bridge over the Kerch Strait (which has been already halted BTW).

There was no rationale for starting the whole crisis other than to paralyse process of Ukraine's accession to Western structures (NATO and EU) and for one simple reason: because this would make Ukraine, an Orthodox country from the Russosphere, richer and better managed than Moscow puppets were interested in and capable of. And this would mean, sooner on later, another Maidan,, but this time on the Red Square.

>inb4 Maidaneks were US paid shills
As long as we talk about ordinary people who died there, they were struggling for their dream (they called it Revolution of Dignity) and not for money.

The fact that you're condemning Russia, again, for moralist reason is why you lose. There are no morals in international relations, just treaties and might. We fuck the rules as much as them, you're just too stupid to realize that. Fuck off you damned child, of course countries manipulate others for the sake of power.

Any discussion regarding Crimea is useless. If you have any thoughts come to Sevastopol and ask 100 random persons on street about their opinion. You will get the same % that was on the referendum. People's will is above everything in modern in modern relations. Treaties, agremeents and international laws are irrelevant in this situation. This new world order was set by the US/West aftet Kosovo, so it could be returned before any discussion on Crimea status.
>>
>>52450254
If treaties, agreements and international laws are irrelevant, then there is no world order anymore, regarding this situation. There is also no argument the other side could recognize as valid. So any discussion is useless indeed. Let the cannons speak.

>Our tanks can reach Kiev in two days.
