What does /int/ think of the Hearts of Iron series?
With HOI 4 coming out this year I was thinking of giving it a go. I've only played Vic 2 and EU4 so not sure what to expect.
Also posting vid related because I liked it.

Looks too hard.
>>52405305
Nice fake
>>52405305
If you've already played paradox games before you'll be fine with them, personally i prefer Vic out of the series but HOI is one of the better ones.
>>52405305
I got the third one in a humble bundle and haven't touched it because it looks really complicated.
>>52405461
I played like 10 minutes of it, couldn't figure out what the fuck to do and gave up
Funny thing is that I've played both CKII and EUIV and know exactly what I'm doing
It was too autistic for me.
Total War is my limit. Anything more makes my brain not work so goodly.
>>52405305
>I've only played Vic 2 and EU4
Filthy casual pls go.
>tfw no paradox cold war GS
>>52405305
I've played and mastered CK2 but can't wrap my head around HOI
Will try it though
I think there should be more features that help you organize your armies. It was a chore to organize absolutely everything from the top to down.
>>52405450
True, I'm really disappointed Vic 3 isn't being worked on.
>>52405461
Apparantly HOI 4 is meant to be more beginner friendly.
>>52405501
Total War has gone down hill so much though. I'm not even talking about all the dlc blatantly cut from the game, every game has been a laggy shit fest lately.
>>52405611
If you think that then you should not be playing HoI
>>52405305
If Rommel had tried to use Tigers in the Western Desert, the Allies would have needed even less effort to beat him
>>52405719
Hearts of Iron 2 was not less messy compared to Hearts of Iron 3.
>>52405774
Daily reminder that australians kucked rommel hard

>>52405813
>"not"
I meant it was less messy.
I love HOI3 for my autism fix. Had a few games where as Finland we held off the Russians during the Winter War. It was glorious as fuck.
>>52405611
Try starting with a easy country like Brazil. You will get accostumed very quickly.
>>52405305
"Making the player learn how to play the game is not important since they can learn from YouTube"
t. Head kike of paradox
Hope its a lot less autistic than HoI3, I just want to make my own Reich without hours of watching tutorials.
>>52405813
I still maintain my opinion
>>52406087
VickyII eventually allowed you to build rail-roads by areas instead of provinces.
i was going to say "I'm not autistic enough"
but I am, I play dwarfs
so I just don't want to waste the time to learn it
>people actually need a tutorial for grand strat games
shaking my head
>>52405305
Play HoI3 instead
>>52405305
HOI4 is the only game i'm looking forward to...
>>52406403
reminds me of wargame a little bit tbhonest
>>52406484
That pic is a joke - it happens when you give the AI controll of your army and its organization, it will immediately start making new division HQs and throw around the divisions no matter how far away they are from the HQ.
As a player it's very easy to keep it organized.
>>52406583
i wish i knew that feel lad
how hard is the game for beginners
>>52406583
If you chuck AI control on it does a whole bunch of shit that doesn't make sense.
Especially as the Soviets.
>>52406709
>game for beginners
This pic only has rudimentary knowlege, it's so complicated that no one bothered to try making a pic explaining it all, i've been playing it for 7 years now and i still dont know how some things actually work (counterspy? political party boosts? supply route????)
>>52405305
I will do as usual, play Luxembourg, edit the save game to give me hundred of CI, manpower and brains and defeat the entire world.
>>52406783
looks pretty simple enough
>>52406783
This is why I always keep my best generals as rovers, flying from fight to fight.
Here you are, 40% bonus.
>>52406844
There's a lot more to it - the tech system, production, modifiers and effects and what not.
But once you know how to actually play it gets very satisfying to make it do what you with.

>tfw you won your war against america in a week because you kept decreasing there national unity and then you used missiles to nukes their towns , all you had to do was land forces in once city and they surrended
>tfw practical bonuses so high in infrastructure and factories meant you could build infrastructure for nothing and building factories cost only half a factory to make , also really fucking fast like less than 20 days for infrastructure
>>52407291
It's easier to just invade them when the AI is in control.
They do nothing all the early years and have a small, shitty army dispatched on the whole territory. Just surprise attack them in NY-Washington, take the ports and you have won.
You could do the practical thing for anything. As Canada, I had single motor planes for half the cost and produced two time faster, while having the maximum techs everywhere.
AS Germany, I did it with armors, my entire army was made of tanks and I needed more manpower to build more of it.
>>52407291
>tfw you won your war against america in a week because you kept decreasing there national unity and then you used missiles to nukes their towns , all you had to do was land forces in once city and they surrended
Did you start the war in 1960 or so? Decreasing national unity almost does nothing.
>tfw practical bonuses so high in infrastructure and factories meant you could build infrastructure for nothing and building factories cost only half a factory to make , also really fucking fast like less than 20 days for infrastructure
Infrastructure spamming is awesome - better than building a huge army to take on Russia.
>>52407470
i'll admit i started the war against them very late , like in 1946 i think , but it does work somehow i reached less than 50% unity when i declared the war
>>52407612
USA usually joins Allies in January 42 and then gets into the war against Germany and has all those + national unity events.
>>52405305
just wait for Total War Warhammer instead
Is it actually worth it to purge your officer in exchange of national unity? If I do it, how can I delay war with Germany for some years?
>>52407678
does it ?
i didn't happen for me , i knocked the allies out as fast as possible, but then Soviet union declared war on me , but they couldn't break through my defenses , so it became a stalemate , after waiting for april and may to come i went on the offensive and they lasted less than a year
Paradox games would be much imporved if they actually bothered to explain their mechanics.
For example, I am yet to figure out how exactly does detzection interact with visibility in HoI3.
>>52406403
Comman chain is just bonuses, not really significat, army group reduces supply consuption which can in theory save a tiny bit of IC.
I couldn't get into HOI3 Tbh.
Paradox and Civ games are garbage. Play gems like Endless Legend instead
>>52407820
I still don't get the point of encryption technology 2bh
>>52407884
>Endless Legend
>a gem
Literally does nothing new, it's just a generic fantasy 4x.
Galactic Civilizations 2 is a gem, play that.
>>52407884
>Paradox and Civ games are garbage. Play gems like Endless Legend instead
>>52407929
>>52407931
Anglos with massive shit taste
>>52407756
Why would you continue to support them after Rome 2 and Attila...
It's hard giving up that series after Rome, Medieval, and Shogun 2 but fuck dude...
>>52407978
Because it's warhammer
>>52407996
Chaos DLC.
>>52407966
>finns don't like paradox games because they get depicted as mongols
>>52406070
>>52406296
>>52407841
hoi3 can literally play the game for you on autopilot and win as Germany
>>52407996
And it's going to be glitchy, laggy, with $100 of DLC within a month. Fuck SEGA and CA
>>52408020
If you order now you get the DLC free, then after that fuck them off for being greedy cunts.
Tbh paradox do this with it's games too.
>>52408061
The game will be pretty GOAT tho, i pirate DLC's anyway.
>>52407978
I don't really get why people give CA so much shit. Yes they're greedy fucks with their dlc policy and Rome 2 was buggy at launch, but overall both R2 and Attila are awesome games. Age of Charlemagne dlc for Attila made me realize how much I want Medieval 3.
you can always steal it and remain true to your principles
>>52408093
>If you order now you get the DLC free, then after that fuck them off for being greedy cunts.
I would not have a problem with this if their last 3 games had all been unplayable on release. If they delivered quality games then fine, but the truth is they know their reputation is fucked and so need to use this as an excuse to boost preorders.
Paradox dlc is okay with me. Even though it's expensive, they provide so much free patches that dwarfs the dlc. They also deliver quality games now, and their games are so replayable you'll get hundreds of hours of fun out of them.
>>52408061
you're complaining about dlc on a paradox thread, just torrent it
>>52408178
It's not the fact dlc exists, it's the way they do it that pisses me off. I like dlc because it provides more content, but when it's cut from the game and released before the game is actually playable that pisses me off. I'd rather have finished games and pay a higher price than ones that are broken for months while they spew out over priced dlc.
Also on the topic about Total War does anyone else hate how the newer games have been doing garrisons and army sizes. Battles are a giant cluster fuck with garrisons of 10s of thousands even on the lowest army size setting.
>>52408281
eu3/4 excluded the napoleonic wars to be included later, ck2 face packs aren't included in relevant dlcs and instead sold separately at unreasonable prices given the work put in them (some require modding to show up properly with no fixes for months)
etc
