Austria is the ancestral lands of the House of Habsburg, and was the seat of the "Holy" "Roman" "Empire".
Austria was only ever part of a unified German nation when the Nazis were in power. Also, attempts at unification were made illegal after the dissolution of the austro-hungarian empire
