do some basic Russian on Duolingo. There are different aspects to Russian pronunciation, it's not just reading the words out loud as you usually do in your language. Also, get out of here with that shit, learn proper Cyrillic for fucks sake ю фaкинг фaгoт.

Just a head's up, when it's not the stressed syllable, you pronounce O as A. So it sounds more like spasiba.

Izvinitye

roll your Rs if possible

Thank you, I am actually already using Duolingo. It was recommended by the guy who wrote the /fit/ sticky.

As for the cyrillic, what I was going to do was learn the translit because I only have an english keyboard, then learn cyrillic later or use http://tlit.org/

Alrighty, OP, it's not awful, but not great. Well, apart from the accent, which is a bit funny.

First off, Извинитe, the second syllable is stressed. Also, Meтpo is Myetro.

Second is the most obvious. Cпacибo. It's not pronounced "Spasibo", it's pronounced "Spasiba".

With Пoжaлyйcтa, it's technically right, but you just seem to be over emphasizing everything. No one says it with that much diction. I've always heard it sound like "Pozhalsta".

Learn Cyrillic in tandem with the language. You will absolutely struggle if you just transliterate everything. You need to be able to read fluently to better repair your accent.
>>
>>52295629
you shouldn't put off learning how to type in cyrillic

the more you write in transliteration, the less you'll be able to adapt.

Same thing for cursive. Don't put it off, learn it ASAP and start using as much as you can. DON'T PUT IT OFF. You CANNOT just say "oh, I simply won't write in cursive". That doesn't work in Russian.

don't. Go Cyrillic right away. Download windows Russian mnemonic keyboard so the letters are lined up, use J+A/E/U for the extra letters.

Trust me on this one, you will be absolutely comfortable with Cyrillic in a week.

These are also interesting http://cytrussian.tuxfamily dot org/

The Duo course is lacking quite a bit in my opinion since they can't/won't get deep into grammar or conjugations. They rely too much on you memorizing declensions without knowing the patterns.

But I hope you make it, don't give up tovarishch

I wouldn't recommend this. If you're going to get used to a keyboard, I would STRONGLY recommend getting used to the real keyboard layout. If you must, simply print out little stickers with the letters and paste them on your keys, if you really need to (in my case I simply printed out an image showing the layout, and kept it beside my pc at all times until I was comfortable typing in Russian (which really didn't take that long).
>>

mnemonic man, it really helps. I did the sticker thing, not worth it.

>>52295830

Eh, then you'll end up looking at the keyboard and cheating. If I were you, I would just practice typing long words that use a variety of letters over and over again, like Здpaвcтвyйтe, дepeвooбpaбaтывaющий, shit like that.

You don't even need to buy them (though obviously you can if you want), just cut out tiny pieces of paper, write out the corresponding Cyrillic letter and tape them to the key
>>

You sound like a fucking idiot and you will never be able to learn it well enough to even read a children's book. Here's an advice: don't waste your time.
>>
>>52295903
using mnemonic just trains you to "think" in transliteration, which is really bad. Mentally, if possible, you should never translate anything (be it spoken or written) in another language. It's must better to actually think Пpивeт and type it out, than think "privjet" and write it like that.

On top of that, if ever you actually end up using a computer or typing machine or anything in Russia or from Russia, this way you'll actually be able to use it as you're already used to the layout. Mnemonic won't help you with that.

Much better! I would say as far as the accent, listen to Russian news and whatnot. Listen to the way they pronounce words and letters. Also, if you know anyone who is native or fluent, you should actually converse with them. It will really help you learn.

Also, make sure to get a mnemonic keyboard. It does wonders. If you can't get a mnemonic, then you could just get a standard keyboard and add stickers. That is what my friend has done, by I elected to go with mnemonic. It's simply much easier.

spasibo is Russian, whatever the alphabet. If he dominates the alphabet it won't mess him up having them dispersed in different arrangements, it will just take some getting used to on a muscle reflex perspective.

c'mon guys, there is no reason to complicate this, the alphabet is almost 1:1 with latin. It's the easiest part of learning Russian. I tried the stickers thing, it really isn't optimal. He needs to think in Cyrillic and read Cyrillic, the conversion just comes from the typing but OP do whatever feels right for your immersion maybe you will agree with them

>spasibo is Russian, whatever the alphabet
with that logic, you might as well not even write in Cyrillic.

The proper way to write in Russian is in Cyrillic. If you're going to write efficiently (in the long run, that is) and properly, you should actually write Cyrillic, not Latin.

And again, it's really not that hard to learn. Once you remember a few key ones (for example, on both keyboards the "C" is at the same spot, that's probably the easiest starting point), then the others fall into place very quickly.

>He needs to think in Cyrillic and read Cyrillic

Okay, look here.

>You can already do it using your mother's tongue without wasting your precious time trying to learn a language without a chance of success.

1. "You can already do it" isn't a correct response grammatically to who you're responding to.
2. "Using your mother's tongue"-- we don't say that. "Native tongue" is the preferred nomenclature.
3. "Without a chance of success"-- you mean, fruitlessly? Hopelessly? Choose your fucking adverbs better.

only 50% of the time, mostly because I am often in contact with English. When I spent a month only speaking English it became 100%, even when I imagined myself talking with my family. So I guess it depends on immersion

Not the key, but the first step in the right direction. First you learn cyrillic, then a shitload of rules on phonetics and grammar. Knowing how Russian is written helps to understand how Russian is pronounced because you know what letters can represent what sounds in certain positions in the word.
