Where my summer house is and my ancestors came from is the highest density place in the world for european brown bears. I've seen a few, but they're good at bugging out before you get to them. Most of the time, a bear encounter is a few footprints, a fresh turd, the unmistakeable smell of bear, branches breaking and something brown running away at the edge of your eyes.
One time we met a young brown bear that had clearly never seen a car before. He didn't care about us at all, but ran up to our car and acted like it was going to chase him, like he was trying to play with it. He acted remarkably similarly to a dog.
Anyway despite living with bears probably about as much as finns do, in Sweden we culturally hate wolves, not bears. Probably because wolves used to actually kill people (almost exclusively women and children) when they got hungry and we didn't have good guns.
