English spelling reform is a terrible idea.
1. Everyone would have to relearn how to read and write.
2. All existant works of English writing (novels, poetry, academic papers, EVERYTHING) would have to be "translated" into the new system or else become archaic and borderline unreadable.
3. Cognates between English and other languages that are obvious now due to spelling would be much more difficult to notice, making English harder to learn for many people (and making other languages harder to learn for English-speakers).
4. In a few centuries we'd probably have to do it again.
