We don't really want to have an identity beyond some kind of civicmindedness and basic loyalty to the nation. We like being multiculti and the things that get identified with an Australian identity are comfy easy things that everyone wants to do anyway.

But European is only the most outer layer of Identity. There is a step or more between the National identity and the European Identity.

It's not even that. Inside the SAME COUNTRY there may be BIGGER differences than compared to OTHER countries. For example, I'm in Crete and here people are quite offensive in the way they talk, they are perceived brutish by other greeks. If Language was identical, there would more similarities between certain parts of a country and other certain parts of another country than between parts in the same country.
