>Trying to learn Russian on Duolingo
Is it supposed to be this hard? You guys told me it was easy!

Learn Esperanto instead.
>>
eto tim
>>
>>52156129
The only hard part is the alphabet.
>>
>>52156129
It isn't easy, but it really isn't too hard either. . .
Have you learned the writing system yet?
>>
cyкa блять :DD

>>
>>52156230
you memeing right now?
The alphabet wasn't bad I just transcribed names of dozens of Russian cities.
Even spelling words out by sound is almost easier than English for me
Its the grammer that fucks my shit up familia
>>
>>52156230
>the alphabet is hard
kek
only some JUST letters like ы, щ, ц, ь/ъ

>>
>>52156501
In fact, you probably can do a better Щ than Ш, so it's the Ш that is difficult.

Yeah, they can do ы pretty fine.

why do you have a picture like that saved?
>>
Just ask a foreigner to say something like pибa, or бить. It will sound like pыбa and быть, proving that they can pronounce Ы with no training.

Whats wrong with a innocent Masha's photo?

>>52157454
I was always thinking they absolutely can't do it.
>>
Is there a resource where I can closely listen to the sound a soft sign makes? It's very hard for me to hear the difference (much harder than ш/щ and и/ы)
>>
>>52157514
Isn't they ы pronounced with tongue, not with throat?
>>
>>52156129
>You guys told me it was easy!
Чтo нeceт, oхyeть вooбщe.
>>
>>52157607
Soft sign makes no sound.
>>
>>52157607
It’s crazy to think that Ь makes a sound. Every consonant is changed by Ь in its own way, it’s literally a second complete set of consonants: Pь, Бь, Фь, Кь and all the rest.
>>
>>52156129
I'm debating whether to learn Russian or Spanish
>>
>>52157626
I’ve only did it like once, I’m not a sort of person who interacts with others.
>>
>>52157607
It softens a sound written by a letter before it.
>>
>>52157678
You might as well try both at the same time. It makes more sense than trying to guess what would you rather spend 7 years doing..
>>
CAn anyone give some info on the Duolingo Russian course? I was thinking of starting it just for fun. I'm nearly done with the German one, and it was a nice intro to the language with not as much grammar as I was expecting from a language learning source.
>>
>>52156677
lol that doesnt even include the cases for nouns
>>
>>52157711
Soft means quiet in English. That’s what people think when you say that, that you should lower your voice.
>>
>>52157678
Spanish ofcourse
>>
Having studied japanese before i expected cyrillic to be mildly difficult at least.
But holy shit it's easy as fuck, the superiority of alphabetic writing is clear.
>>
>>52157728

Do cyrillic alphabet course on memrise first
>>
>>52157789
So it's fine to fuck around with?

>>52157798
Roger that. I like memrise more than Duo anyway.
>>
>>52157728
Duolingo is always just an intro

for more grammar use Assimil and Michel Thomas, Memrise to improve vocabulary

once you’ve finished those download films and video games in German, you need native material to really get the language

I-its for language practice mom!
I cant be the only one here who does this

Oh, my bad.
>>
>>52157828
We use пoeдy or пoлeчy in this case. I know, it’s oddly specific.
>>
>>52157826
I've heard of Assimil and Michel Thomas, haven't bothered to download though. I have a stupid amount of grammar books that I goof with. I watch movies every now and then to hear real people speak.

grammar books aren’t very good imo, they're designed to be used in a classroom, Michel Thomas and Assimil teach it naturally and you don't need to read or go to a class
>>
I've gotten very comfortable with Spanish and decent at Portuguese just with Duolingo, scavenging around for native materials, and then eventually having conversations with natives.
>>
>>52158733
have you used them? can you tell me about your experience?

language is very different than English, you should be ready for it. Also our language scientists are faggots and orphography is weird.

Sorry, I worded it poorly. I understand the concept of it and how it works, but I can't really hear what it's doing to consonants before it.

>>
>>52161358
look up "palatization" - thats the scientific word for the "softening" of the consonant
hopefully you'll find some sound examples
>>
Duolingo is shit without a pile of grammar books anyway.

#slav signing off
Well, at least they have two forms of accusative, which is a wacky novelty I've never seen before in a language.
