That's not a lot of money for a country. If that was coming out of people's taxes and not the oil money, it'd be less than $2 per person. And it's not a useless investment either, the seed bank has already been withdrawn from (by Syria).

>muh cück money
Norway is at least as conservative as Australia is with immigration/refugees. Australia pays for the refugees and immigrants that they do have with tax money from their citizens, Norway pays for them with a fraction of their oil money. What is more cück, having everybody work to provide for refugees/immigrants, or having a few hundred people in the government oil company work to provide the money for them?

>tfw almost none if our state governments would use our natural resources to fund their government because muh market efficiency, even for simple resource extraction
Seriously, with the way our government/tax structure works, that seems like one of the best ways for state governments to fund themselves. The federal government does income tax, so an additional state income tax isn't popular. Right now, state governments use sales taxes and property taxes to fund themselves (along with city governments), but that only increases the price of goods and services which is bad for the economy. If they just had a few state owned corporations in resource extraction, we could cut taxes & promote trade by using some of the money to build infrastructure. It's also be really beneficial for schools because they are funded by local property taxes, so poor neighborhoods have shit school and rich neighborhoods have good schools. If the money for public schools came from say the state's copper wealth, that wouldn't be a problem (and private schools still exist for the people concerned about the community having control over their schools). iirc the only thing similar to this we have right now is some states have their own liquor companies, and Alaska has their oil company which they use to benefit their citizens.

The companies who provide enterprise internet.
Are you sure you've asked for the consumer plan?
>>
>>52151470
Not all of them, and it doesn't even have to be a state monopoly on those resources either. Just having a state owned corporation in the market with a mandate to give a share of the profits to the government would provide a lot of revenue for the government. Although there is a big risk of corruption, which is why this type of thing only works in countries like Norway with good governments.

Telstra was federally owned and now it is a fucking shambles and Qantas was govt owned, sold off then had to be bailed out. Privatisation hasn't worked out well for Australian companies outside of short term gain for selling them.
>>
>>52152248
True. I'm probably thinking too short term. Although didn't the govt want to privatize Telstra because it was costing resources and not making enough money?

It's not meant to make money it's a fuggen service. Now they have a complete monopoly of the market (they rent out their infrastructure to other telcos). If you haven't been fucked by Telstra at least once in your life consider yourself lucky.

It's like selling the airport to a damn bank. Full retard.

Abbott literally sold it because "Muh short term gain", "Muh Surplus", "Muh gotta please Liberal party donators"

Norway's economy is in a pretty sad state desu, the oil dominates their economy so much that it cannibalises on other sectors of their economy that could provide a more sustainable long term income for the country while the high tariffs on many foreign products combined with subsidises for local products have made their economy quite uncompetitive in many fields as well. Now with the oil price on an all time low the Norwegian government is starting to feel the consequences of those policies. I hope they swiftly reform their economy and promote other sectors or else a long oil induced hangover will be felt for a decade or more.

You don't seem to understand how external debt works. Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, UK, Canada and Australia all have external debt ranging from 92 (Canada) to 406 (UK) percent of their GDP, and they're all AAA credit rated countries. Debt is in no way unhealthy for such economies. Norway is also a net international creditor, which means our external debt is less than the total external debt other countries owe us.

It's literally impossible to end up homeless in Norway, no matter how bad you fuck up the government will be there to provide for you.

Poverty is a meme here. You're considered to be living below the poverty line if you make less than 235,200NOK a year, before our currency crashed that equaled close to 40,000USD. You can make a decent living with that kind of money.

Put away that wink, Ivan. It's decent in Norway too, even tho it's far from the average income. After taxes that will be enough to rent a comfy apartment, own a car with insurance, average internet, food, and perhaps even a couple of money-sucking hobbies if you don't waste money.
