It is taxed 60%, not 98%. If you don't want any taxes on petrol you could go to Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. Everywhere in (Western) Europe petrol simply is taxed to fuck. If we would have the same gas prices as Italy for example, the average Dutch person driving 15k km a year would save a whopping 10 euros a month on petrol. Now compare salaries between Italy and us.
