I'm Somali, and we use Injera [we call it Injero Habeshi: Ethiopian Injero], and it's a puffy sourdough bread that has the perfect texture to go with a savoury stew. I've only had wat at weddings, and it's a lot like Indian curry, it's really good stuff. It's a shame Somalis fails to adopt that aspect of Ethiopian cuisine like we have their sourdough bread. Probably because Ethiopians use raw meat in some of their wats and Muslims saw it as a heathen dish.

Certain dishes I have to eat with my hands, otherwise it's like drinking wine out of a mug and coffee out of a wine glass. That being said, I'm talking of a very few dishes that are made impractical without hands, spoons and forks are vastly superior to hands the rest of the time.
Somali cuisine is difficult to describe to people who haven't tried it. Somali cuisine in Somalia is very plain except for well off people [maybe 15% of the population] who can afford nice ingredients, and ceremonial Somali food.
Diaspora Somali food is the good food of Somalia, and I may be biased having grown up with it, but it's really, really good. It's not anything any anon would associate with Somalia or Somalis.
I certainly think it's one of the better world cuisines. I've been to Kuwait, and even their "good" food is shit [at least of what I've tried], but if you go to the more stable parts of Somalia to a wedding, or to a Ramadan feast, they'll have really damn good food with fresh vegetables, seasoned meat, flavoured rice and pasta, and it's very delicious.
People naturally make tasty food with what they've got, but unlike arabs who put butter, sugar and lard in everything they eat [becaus it's associated with wealth] Somalis prefer well seasoned well-cooked meat, long grain rice, fresh vegetables and flavourful spices. It's a cuisine that's filling but doesn't bloat you.
