Also, this is me. I'm living in Spain, but I'm trying to learn how to speak with a received pronunciation. Rate my shitty recording.

Pretty good, I can understand the most and your voice is even pleasant, even though it's obvious you're not a native speaker. If I didn't know you were spanish, I would say you're chinesse.

Hard to tell, he doesn't have much of an accent but I would probably say somewhere in the Southwest of England.

yours was pretty good for a spaniard, a couple of weird moments like the way you said "haunts" like "hounts" was pretty kek
>>
>>52098875
Thanks for the suggestion. I followed the Collins Dictionary, where with british RP accent, "Haunt" must be pronunced like /hɔːnt/ (see International Phonetic Alphabet).

I am 28. Quite old for 4chan.

>>52088852

If this is you, your accent is a bit hard for me to understand because you are speaking very softly, but your voice sounds good and comforting.
>>
>>52099279
The british one was fun and very cliché.

Here's my attempt at talking spanish, what do you think spaniard amigo ?

In my defense, I never even watch British TV shows other than Doctor Who.
I honestly have no idea what British people actually sound like.
>>
>>52099756
Yeah, it's me. During this month I've been trying to improve my general english (reading, listening, speaking...). Anyway, 28 is not old for 4chan. I've seen people around 40 here.

>>52100172
It's... strange. My first thought was that you were chinese, and you've been studying South American spanish. Note that this is not bad, it's just different from what I usually hear. I'd suggest you to pronounce less "b" and more "v". Less "s" and more "c". Less "i" and more "y". Not sure if you know what I mean.

See my recording (note that I have a "neutral" spanish accent, more often known as "Castellano" or Castilian, from Madrid):
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1YjaX6GhQr5

Sorry for not speaking better and louder, it's late here, and I can't make noise right now.
>>
>>52100890
Oh thank you very much. I've been a few months to Mexico so that might explain the accent. I have trouble speaking like you guys do in Spain. In Mexico, they pronounce "z", "c" and "s" the same, it's easier. When I go to Spain, it's hard for me to understand when people talk, and you all talk super fast. I'll try to improve my accent then
>>
>>52099267
Don't understand the phonetic alphabet and not going to attempt to, but basically I can tell you that nobody will ever pronounce haunt the way that you did.
>>
If you're interested, guys, here's the ORIGINAL AUDIO of my text. From "Dear Esther":
http://vocaroo.com/i/s07HtxpWWMKZ

The voice actor is Nigel Carrington, and he's using RP accent.

>>52100491
It's just a matter of time, I'm sure you can improve. But please, don't speak like a robot.

>>52100486
This one is not bad. I don't know why, but some girls love this kind of french accent.

>>52101375
I guess that you should decide which accent you'd like to learn. No matter which one you'll choose (South American or from Spain), everybody will normally understand you. It's just like the difference between British and North American english (well, a bit more different).
>>
>>52100890
>I'd suggest you to pronounce less "b" and more "v"

my ex (she was from girona) told me you guys pronounce b and v the same
>>
>>52101623
And it's principally true, but according to his recording, he said things like "Vale" as "Bale", with a stronger "B" instead of a soft "V". Also, people here in Spain is speaking worse than ever, remember that :(
>>
>>52100890
>>52101623
and when she spoke english to me, I would notice that she didn't pronounce v at all. so very would become bery etc

so i'm confused that you advise him to pronounce v when speaking spanish
>>
>>52101623
I think it's almost the same (?), by the way Girona is a maravillosa city, I loved it.
I was planning to go to Madrid someday, is it nice ? I already know Barcelona and la Costa Brava, but Madrid seems to be a good place to live. Do you confirm ?
>>
>>52101790
To my ear you pronounced bale with a b sound too

I guess I'm just not familiar enough with the language to tell distinguish the subtlety of this letter?
>>
>>52101851
Sorry mate I'm English, I've only been to Barcelona where my ex studied for university. Never been to Madrid and never went to her home in Girona although I was supposed to, regret it now because I'll probably never get the chance now.
>>
>>52090020
based northern lad
>>
>>52101802
Maybe it's just that I lived near the capital, but I pronounce it like a "v". Even spaniards use to confuse both letters when they speak or write.

>>52101874
>To my ear you pronounced bale with a b sound too
To be honest, I read it too fast to be understood.

Check this, the first 2 times I'm using V, and the last two, B.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1CFSQbZoo1H

And here I'm saying:
Vainilla (Vanilla), Valencia, Baile (Dance), Botón (Button).

>>
>>52102179
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1nhN4N1X89h
To be honest, I don't know anymore when to use "v" or "b", but what you say is interesting. Does it depend of the context, you are confusing me. I used to say most of the time the "b" sound.
>>
>>52101601
Thanks. Gf's from northern England and she helped me getting a better reading pace, although I fear her accent will start rubbing on mine at some point.
>>
>>52102457
Nice, but remember that the "LL" sounds like similar to "Y", but a bit longer, not sure of how to explain it. It's the first problem for a foreigner.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ll_(digramme)

Also, when you say Botón, remember to put emphasis on the accented "O" (ó).

Just don't give too much importance to the v/b. Sounds similar, and you'll be understood. But yes, in most cases it's a matter of context.

Good night all, guys (and gals). Keep posting :)

Forgot I even posted it
I was born in the south east of England, but I've spent most of my life in the North West of England. I spent a few years in Texas as a child.
I occasionally find myself pronouncing stuff with more of an northern accent than southern.
My parents speak with southern accents. My dad has a bit of a cockney twang My younger siblings are basically northern 24/7.
Yea I always skip words and stutter when reading text aloud. Quite annoying 2bh

Also, if you're the person who has made accent threads before, I said I would try to get some Non-South East BBC accent material for you.
