On an interesting note, in French the word for bullet is "balle", and the word for (cannon) ball is "boulet"
For some reason, the two words switched meaning when the English took them from French

No, it's silent in all the words I posted. There are some where it isn't but those are much rarer. In Icelandic it's always pronounced as a soft 'th'-sound as far as I know.
