Another excerpt from A Frenchman in America: Recollections of Men and Things, by Max O'Rell.

"The tip in America is not /de rigueur/ as in Europe. The cabman charges you so much, and expects nothing more. He would lose his dignity by accepting a tip (many run the risk). He will often ask you for more than you owe him ; but this is the act of a sharp man of business, not the act of a servant. In doing so, he does not derogate from his character.
The negro is the only servant who smiles in America, the only one who is sometimes polite and attentive, and the only one who speaks English with a pleasant accent.
The negro porter in the sleeping cars has seldom failed to thank me for the twenty-five or fifty cent piece I always give him after he has brushed—or rather, swept—my clothes with his little broom."

Qué hermosa noche,
Cuántas estrellas en el cielo,
Madre,
Abreme la ventana
Que quiero verlas.

No, hija, no, no, no,

anyway, this was cute as fuck tbqh. you did some major mistakes, but the biggest error was that you read some things the wrong way.

for example:

ει and οι are pronounced like ee, they are the same exact sound like υ,η,ι
ου is pronounced like your u, like in do
also we dont emphasize when there is the same letter twice, like you guys do.

Almost perfect: you pronounced "ch" wrong the first time and perfectly the second one.

"ch" is ALWAYS hard (a "k" sound) in Italian words.
"BUT WHAT ABOUT CHA-CHA-CHA?"
Cha-cha-cha is not Italian.

Seriously, 9/10

(Oh, I read Greek text that way because I have been studying in Liceo ANCIENT Greek, therefore, you know...)

Is my accent more American or more European? Or is it totally alien? I like the Canadian accent the best, it's neutral and nice. Am I on my way? It's weird to learn the language from so many sources, I understand all spoken English without getting cues of different accents, so my choices end up all arbitrary.

I can also attempt some heavy, intentional British accent and fail pretty hard, just for your amusement! Here:

Not so good, but neither so bad.

The only thing I don't appreciate is, not your fault, the lack of...pathos.
I'll try to explain the context:
we are in the last Infernal section. Count Ugoline is biting Ruggieri's skull, a man who locked Ugoline and his sons in a tower.
Ugoline had to see his sons die in front of him, before eating them in order to survive.

The translation is:

"You really are cruel, if you do not awe
thinking about what my heart foretold me
and if you do not cry, what do you usually cry about?"

(Oh, "già" is pronounced with soft g, as in "geometry";
" 'l " is shortened for "il", so you are right, because it is used in poetry)

Not bad, let's say
>>
>>52037294
thanks for the feedback, amico

I used the h in the place o χ and x in the place of ξ

Τhe H in Hellas (Ελλας) is used to in the place of the dasia, a kind of toning that influenced pronounciation. this doesnt exist anymore

your accent is cute af, maybe even cuter than the italian's. you didnt do any major mistakes. the only mistake is the way you pronounced the x. it's supposed to like a ks sound, like in axe. other than that slow but understandable

mio amico, it's sad but even if you read it right, I wouldnt really know, cause they dont teach ancient pronounciation. also we didnt do ANY ancient greek poetry. We only had philosophy (Plato, Aristotle) and history (Xenophon, Thoukididis).

You can read my favourite Aristotle quote if you want.

Ancient is mandatory in middle school and for one year in highschool. it's focused only on grammar, syntax and translation.

then you choose if you want to continue. for the last two years in highschool ancient greek lesson covers the rest of the grammar, syntax and covers Lysias, Dimosthenis, Isokratis some Sofoklis (basically a joke),Plato and Aristotle.

It's actually useful cause through ancient greek you develop a deeper understanding of the structure of modern greek, but the way the lesson is taught is a fucking joke.

I went to the southern part of slovakia quite a lot.
Hungarians who live there speak hungarian in a similar manner.
I tought you were a hungarian living in slovakia át first glance.

Very good, two very small mistakes :
You pronounced the t from essentielle kinda like a "sh", it sounds like a s, and you forgot a liason at "ait exaspéré.

Spotify is great irregardless of YouTube's copyright policies. It's so much more convenient, although YouTube obviously still beats it because of the music videos.

And

I think you guy've misunderstood me. They're almost all just my own recordings that've required me to use Audacity to record with instead of directly to Vocaroo.com

There are only a select few vocs from other people that I've saved because they've amused me to a special extent.

You need friends. And I'm going down the same road, just not as autistic (yet).

Socket, locket and rocket are good rhymes, but depending on the flavor you want to give, a nearly-rhyme is more engagine, like packet, racket or even stretches like "plugged it".

tbqh on my "Other Vocaroonis" folder is other people. And it's only 93.6mb. It's mostly just people reciting Cold Lampin' by Flava Flav or reading an excerpt from my short story, The Days of our Nine Lives.

This is my fave voc in the folder. It's a classic desu. I had forgotten that I had saved it, and now I'm really happy to have found it again.
