In terms of market share though Toyota controls by far the most, with 18.3%

Japanese companies control ~50% of the market in Australia

Pretty much. The base Land Cruiser we get here is basically a LHD Sahara. It comes equipped with every option possible as standard and is about $83,000 new. There are rumors that they may start building them in the US to bring prices down once the US-centric Sequoia ends production, freeing up factory space. I wish they would sell cheaper variants of the Land Cruiser here. I'd love a turbodiesel GX for some offloading shit. I think Toyota doesn't sell low trim Land Cruisers here simply because it would cut into sales of the Sequoia.

Toyo parts are already quite cheap here, most Toyota truck parts are sourced from Mexico or domestically in the US market.

$4000 in parts and labor or just parts? If that includes labor that's only about $1k more expensive than it is here.

08. Ford Fiesta (8.632)

The Outlander PHEV was sold like crazy here because of the government decided to encourage the sale of hybrids and used several tax incentives for that. It became really cheap to drive one.

Yeah, that's pretty much the norm for any large off-roader. If you want to see absurd overpriced 4WD service costs check out what it costs to run a Range Rover or X5, if you can even consider an X5 a real off roader. Honestly the only cheap off road vehicles I can think of are Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram stuff but they break so often it ends up costing the same. Fords are a pretty good middle ground regarding price.

The 20 year thing isn't an /o/ meme.
A while back Mercedes got buttmad that Americans were importing superior German Mercedes rather than buying domestic, so they got a law put in place that made it so a vehicle must be 25 years old before it can be legally imported.
For some reason it applies to all manufacturers.
Its why you couldn't get an R32 Skyline in the US until last year, unless you got it on the grey market, in which case chances are it got seized real fucking fast.

Heavy insurance premiums means anyone who's not minted and is a new driver can't get anything better than a hatchback or something of the sort.
The only car I've found with a 2L engine that isn't a hatchback with decent insurance on a new, 18 year old driver is a post-2008 Mitsubishi Lancer (non Evo, ofc).
If I were to import a silvia from Japan for £3000 total, car, shipping and registration, my insurance would be £13000 a year. Bullshit desu.
Also the insurance on a non-imported EK6 Type R is like 6k a year
